What is a Sector Initiative?

In its Sector Initiatives, EcoVadis offers a full supply chain service solution, including the coordination office, data mining tools, thematic workstreams and sharing technology.

These enable members to share their supplier scorecards in a safe space that is accessible to all other members of the initiative.

By sharing these supplier assessment efforts, it reduces the workload for all stakeholders, suppliers and buyers.

The Initiative’s roadmap is formed based on the sustainability risks from shared suppliers, which can be translated into corrective actions.

Members of Initiatives can gain an improvement in coverage of supply chain sustainability performance, more leverage and visibility with suppliers and project and community management support from EcoVadis.

Nicole Sherwin, Chief Impact Officer at EcoVadis, says in the company's Purpose Report: "Sustainability is a shared responsibility, and these ambitions ensure our strategy remains unwavering for the years to come."

The Retail Impact Initiative

Five leading retail organisations – ALDI SOUTH Group, Lidl International, Gebr. Heinemann, ALDI Nord Group and REWE Group – are collaborating via the Retail Impact Initiative.

It was created to tackle the challenge of balancing the need for responsible sourcing, environmental stewardship and compliance with complex and evolving regulations.

Members aim to engage suppliers in ESG evaluations, using EcoVadis sustainability assessments, which supports the broader adoption of ESG-aligned business practices.

The Initiative pools supplier scorecards into a dashboard to remove key risks and identify priorities, using evidence-based and targeted actions.

This helps to drive sector-wide improvement, helping boost sustainability across retail supply chains.

It also aims to promote transparency, accountability and continuous improvement within the sector through regular member meetings.

The Retail Impact Initiative aims to align these objectives to inspire lasting change for responsibility and integrity in retail operations.

EcoVadis said on LinkedIn: “Retailers today navigate a complex and rapidly evolving landscape, balancing the need for responsible sourcing, environmental stewardship and compliance with complex and evolving regulations.

“By working together and advancing transparency, accountability and sector-wide standards, the initiative aims to foster lasting progress, creating a more responsible and resilient future for the retail sector, all within the limits of competition law.”

The Initiative aims to provide a collaborative platform which can foster trust, transparency and shared learning for its members.

It also offers advanced analytics for supply chain priorities and opportunities, as well as tailored guidance to help suppliers exceed ESG expectations.
