From energy to retail, five procurement leaders at major French firms are redefining sustainability and strategy across their global supply chains

France’s largest organisations depend on sharp procurement leadership to align business performance with long-term environmental goals.

At the centre of this transformation are five Chief Procurement Officers (CPOs) navigating complex supplier ecosystems while advancing sustainability within EDF, Carrefour, TotalEnergies, BNP Paribas and AXA.

These procurement leaders are streamlining operations, reshaping sourcing strategy and embedding responsible procurement into their global frameworks.

Energy and engineering: Stéphane Cambier and Alain Tranzer

At TotalEnergies, Stéphane Cambier heads procurement operations after spending more than two decades at the firm.

Since 2023, Stéphane has led TotalEnergies Global Procurement (TGP), which manages purchasing activities across all company entities including local business units and international affiliates.

The company, based near Paris in Courbevoie, is a major player in the global energy sector, involved in everything from oil and gas exploration to power generation.

TGP’s aim is to improve procurement processes by consolidating shared service centres and simplifying purchases for users across the business.

StĂ©phane supports the company’s transformation strategy by driving a procurement model that focuses on both operational efficiency and sustainability. Central to this is the Sustainable Procurement roadmap, which outlines responsible supplier engagement, environmental goals and streamlined sourcing.

Alain Tranzer, Group Executive Director in charge of Engineering and Supply Chain Management at EDF

Meanwhile, at Électricité de France (EDF), Alain Tranzer holds the title of Group Senior Executive Vice President, leading the Engineering and Supply Chain Directorate.

EDF is one of the world’s largest utility companies, delivering electricity through an extensive network of generation and distribution infrastructure, with nuclear power at its core.

Alain’s background combines industrial engineering and automotive innovation. After graduating from École Polytechnique and École des Mines de Paris, he worked on Peugeot vehicles before moving into executive leadership roles.

At EDF, Alain drives the "excell" programme, designed to enhance project governance and industrial quality within major nuclear ventures. His role focuses on ensuring the supply chain functions efficiently across procurement, production and logistics.

By embedding low-carbon technology strategies into the organisation’s development, Alain positions procurement as a key contributor to EDF’s decarbonisation targets.

Financial sustainability: Enguerrand de Pontevès and Florence Vuillet

At BNP Paribas, Group CPO Enguerrand de Pontevès brings a background in IT, infrastructure and performance management to the financial giant.

Since taking the role in 2022, he has secured responsible sourcing practices through supplier development and internal performance initiatives.

BNP Paribas is a top-tier global bank with operations in retail banking, asset management and insurance. The bank’s commitment to ethical procurement has been recognised with the Supplier Relations & Responsible Procurement (RFAR) Certification.

At AXA, Florence Vuillet leads the insurance company’s procurement activities with a sharp focus on efficiency and strategic sourcing.

AXA operates globally in life and health insurance as well as asset management - and Florence’s experience spans multiple industries. Her procurement leadership is grounded in financial and operational rigour, informed by earlier roles at JP Morgan and Solvay.

Before joining AXA, Florence held sourcing roles at Goodyear and Euroclear, working across the automotive and finance sectors.

At AXA, she has implemented performance-led procurement strategies while aligning supplier management with the group’s sustainability values. Her work blends cost efficiency with a responsible sourcing ethos, ensuring AXA’s supply base supports its social and environmental aims.

Retail complexity: Sébastien Digonnet at Carrefour

At Carrefour, Group Purchasing Director Sébastien Digonnet oversees procurement strategy across both fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) private labels and indirect purchasing.

Carrefour operates hypermarkets and convenience stores globally, offering a wide assortment from groceries to electronics.

Sébastien stepped into this role in 2021 after a career shaped by procurement at the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

His background includes managing regional coordination for lighting systems and global sourcing for vehicle interiors and aftersales parts. This technical experience gives him deep insight into operational logistics and international supplier networks.

At Carrefour, Sébastien focuses on transforming purchasing models by driving performance and sustainability. He holds a Master's in Business Administration with a specialisation in Purchasing from Grenoble Ecole de Management and began his career with Société Générale.

His approach ensures Carrefour’s retail offering is supported by ethical sourcing, supplier transparency and procurement that adapts to evolving consumer expectations.
