We caught up with Alessandro to discover what inspired him to get involved with Sustainability LIVE: Net Zero, what he hopes to achieve through his panel and his predictions for the future of the sustainability industry.
What inspired you to get involved in Sustainability LIVE: Net Zero?
What inspired me the most to be part of the Sustainability Live: Net Zero event is the broad approach to sustainability and diverse audience from the private sector.
Because of its interconnected nature, sustainability is a challenge that requires creative solutions that can only be addressed with a partnership and collaboration point of view, involving different disciplines, from biology to finance and social science, which often have difficult dialogue.
This event gives exactly this space and opportunity for dialogue.
Provide an overview of what your Global ESG Strategies panel will focus on.
ESG is quite a controversial term since it still considers aspects such as environment, people and alignment of values as a sort of separated entity.
However, today we see that more and more companies, and the private sector overall, realise their direct and indirect impact on such areas and want to address them correctly — for example by setting science-based net zero targets for carbon reduction.
In my panel, as part of a developer of biodiverse restoration projects, I'd like to discuss how companies today can effectively address such challenges by both taking responsibility for their negative climate, biodiverse and social impacts and creating new positive impacts at the same time, by investing in biodiverse restoration projects.
What do you hope to achieve through Sustainability LIVE: Net Zero?
I'm looking forward to meeting corporate sustainability managers, getting their points of view on addressing the overall sustainability challenge and exchanging ideas on possible solutions
What emerging trends do you believe will shape the future of sustainability over the next decade?
I think that nature aspects, such as the amount of carbon reduced, water benefits, social impacts, etc., will be increasingly internalised into any company value chain.
This means that nature will start to be measured with the same financial metrics as any other company asset or liabilities.
This trend could also boost and consolidate the nascent setup in the financial sector of nature as a new solid asset class, with institutional investors finally seeing it as a real asset, instead of as a philanthropic 'nice to have' on their books.
