Chicago's commitment to sustainability

Through community-driven initiatives, green architecture and innovative policies, Chicago has secured its position as a sustainability leader.

In 2022, Chicago released its Climate Action Plan, which stated how the city will reduce its carbon emissions by 62% by 2040.

The plan details Chicago’s climate strategies that will help drive equity and economic inclusion, reduce the pollution burden, enhance equitable access to critical infrastructure and improve community health and resiliency.

By implementing this plan, Chicago strives to achieve several ambitious targets by 2040, including -

  • Divert 90% of residential waste
  • Create 2,500 new public passenger electric vehicle charging stations
  • Enable 100% electrification of delivery fleets
  • Achieve 100% clean renewable energy community-wide
  • Enable Chicagoans to walk, bike, take transit or use shared micro-mobility for 45% of all trips

Join us at Sustainability LIVE Chicago next year and discover the strategies and technological developments you can harness to enhance your sustainability plan in 2025 and beyond.
