Chicago's commitment to sustainability

Through community-driven initiatives, green architecture and innovative policies, Chicago has secured its position as a sustainability leader.

In 2022, Chicago released its Climate Action Plan, which stated how the city will reduce its carbon emissions by 62% by 2040.

Achieve 100% clean renewable energy community-wide
Enable Chicagoans to walk, bike, take transit or use shared micro-mobility for 45% of all trips
