Sustainability LIVE: Interview with Carlo Alberto Pratesi
Despite its challenges – limited natural resources, dependence on energy imports and vulnerability to climate change – Malta has made significant progress in advancing sustainability.
Aligning with EU environmental directives and the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Malta is strongly committed to tackling global issues.
In February 2025, Sustainability LIVE will bring its transformative platform to Malta, hosting a dynamic one-day, in-person event at the Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC) in Valletta.
Sustainability LIVE: Malta provides an unparalleled opportunity for leaders, innovators and influencers in sustainability and ESG to network, collaborate and drive impactful solutions for a sustainable future.

Sustainability Magazine recently caught up with Carlo to discover what inspired him to join the event, what he hopes to achieve and his predictions for the future of sustainability.
What inspired you to get involved in Sustainability LIVE: Malta?
I am interested in meeting an audience of companies and entrepreneurs from the countries south of the Mediterranean, where the approach to some sustainability issues can be very different — and I'm also happy to visit Malta where I've never been.
Provide us with an overview of what your panel will focus on.
With a particular focus on the food sector, I would like to talk about how consumers tend to interpret the concept of sustainable product in very different ways.
Based on these differences, I will explain which strategies can be adopted by companies that want to gain a competitive advantage in the market, leveraging their offer and communication.
What do you hope to achieve through the event?
I hope to obtain useful contacts and a better understanding of corporate attitudes (on sustainability) in Mediterranean countries
What emerging trends do you believe will shape the future of sustainability over the next decade?
Although it may seem that sustainability has lost some of its importance in the conversations, and in the interests of politicians, I believe that the path undertaken in Europe — the green deal — and in the rest of the world will not stop.
Not only because the new laws make them relevant, but also because companies and consumers are increasingly aware of the risks (and costs) that being unsustainable entails.
Carlo will be speaking at Sustainability LIVE: Malta on 20 February 2025 where he will be taking part in the panel discussion – EU Reporting: Driving Sustainability.
The panel will explore the crucial role of EU reporting frameworks in advancing environmental and social objectives, as well as examine how the EU’s rigorous reporting requirements are shaping corporate sustainability practices and driving meaningful change.
