Sustainability LIVE @ London Climate Action Week - The Leadership Summit: is driving net zero collaboration and climate innovation across global sectors

Running from 20 to 28 June, London Climate Action Week (LCAW) serves as a global call to accelerate climate action, safeguard ecosystems and advance the delivery of decarbonisation efforts.

At the forefront of climate action is the effort to reach low carbon emission economies, net zero goals and decarbonisation strategies, much of which includes renewable energy and EVs.

Sustainability LIVE @ London Climate Action Week - The Leadership Summit is a one-day event aimed for senior sustainability executives who are at the forefront of climate action strategy.

Transitioning to low carbon emissions

The transition to a low-carbon economy is one of the defining challenges of the 21st century, requiring a fundamental transformation in how energy is produced, consumed and managed across all sectors.

The UK’s Low Carbon Transition Plan outlines strategies such as improving efficiency, expanding renewable energy and deploying innovations like carbon capture and storage to help reach targets.

According to the UK, this shift is essential not only for limiting climate change but also for strengthening long-term energy security and economic resilience, despite challenges such as infrastructure changes and upfront costs arising.

At the same time, the World Economic Forum (WEF) identifies this transition as the fourth major global energy shift, following coal, oil and natural gas, distinguished by its primary driver of addressing climate change and meeting Paris Agreement targets such as achieving net zero emissions by around 2050.

WEF also highlights the complexity of balancing sustainability with economic development and energy access for the roughly 800 million people still without electricity, noting that because emissions are unevenly distributed across sectors, the transition requires a combination of solutions.

The Forum suggests that increasing energy efficiency, scaling low-carbon technologies like wind, solar and electric vehicles and capturing unavoidable emissions through nature-based approaches or carbon capture systems can all aid in decarbonisation.

More speakers are expected to be announced.

The discussion highlights how businesses must navigate a patchwork of evolving policies, regulatory pressures and rising stakeholder expectations.

Different regions and industries are progressing at varied speeds toward a low-carbon economy, creating both challenges and opportunities for strategic decision-making.

Ultimately, the session underscores that successful climate action now depends not just on ambition, but on adaptability, collaboration and a clear understanding of the global context shaping sustainability efforts.
