Signify: Saving Energy & Expanding Europe’s Circular Economy

“Leadership means showing the way and in terms of sustainability action, we’ve done just that,” says Signify.
The company, a world leader in lighting, has introduced its sustainability programme; Brighter Lives, Better World 2030.
The initiative is designed to respond to real challenges with innovations that support customers, benefits society and drives long-term value.
Brighter Lives, Better World
The world leader in lighting has launched Brighter Lives, Better World 2030, a comprehensive program designed to expand access to energy and resource-efficient lighting while addressing some of the most urgent global challenges.
Responding directly to rising electricity demand, volatile pricing and increasing resource scarcity, the initiative focuses on delivering efficient, connected and electrified solutions that improve everyday life.
By transforming the potential of light into meaningful impact, the program aims to create healthier, safer, more resilient and more liveable environments for communities worldwide.
“Brighter Lives, Better World 2030 is designed to deliver solutions that improve lives, save energy and make better use of resources - which is exactly what our customers are asking for,” says As Templeman, Chief Executive Officer at Signify.
“It shows that impact and opportunity go hand in hand, as we create real value for society, while building a stronger, more resilient company.”
A sustainability pillar
A key pillar of the program is delivering benefits beyond illumination.
The company continues to expand the role of lighting in improving quality of life, enhancing indoor productivity and comfort, strengthening safety and security in cities, supporting more efficient food production and increasing access to solar lighting in off-grid areas.
By 2030, 41% of total revenues are expected to come from such solutions, up from 31% in 2024.
At the same time, energy efficiency is positioned as a major growth accelerator.
“We’re proud to introduce the third chapter of Brighter Lives, Better World,” says Maurice Loosschilder, Head of Sustainability at Signify.
“Our new programme builds on the progress of the past decade, remaining fully committed to our 2040 net zero ambition, with new targets that focus on reducing the energy and resource consumption of our customers, while continuing to drive innovations that improve safety & security, health and well-being.”
Building on advances in LED and connected lighting, the company is committed to helping customers reduce energy demand, manage costs and cut emissions, with targets to cumulatively save 60 TWh of energy and achieve a 35% reduction in portfolio CO₂ emission intensity.
Programs like the Green Switch initiative, already supporting more than 37,000 projects and 10,000 local authorities, will expand further, offering guidance, financing options and tailored solutions to accelerate the transition to efficient lighting systems.
Energy efficiency and circularity
The program also emphasises resource efficiency and circular value creation through a “use less, use longer, use again” approach.
New initiatives, such as Signify Circle, will provide circular products and services including Light as a Service, remanufacturing, spare parts and upgrade kits, helping professional customers meet their sustainability ambitions.
Starting in Europe, circular revenues in the Professional business are expected to grow significantly, from 10% to 27.5% by 2030.
“Our customers want products they can trust – that last for a long time and can adapt to their changing needs,” says Sophie Breton, President, Professional Business, Europe at Signify.
“SIgnify Circle will help our professional customers in Europe to make informed choices about the products and services they need to support their circular economy ambitions.”
Underpinning all of this is a strong foundation of responsible business practices, including low-impact manufacturing, fair working conditions and a commitment to human rights and inclusion.
With progress reported quarterly and a broader ambition to reach net zero emissions by 2040, the program builds on earlier goals, such as doubling circular and “brighter lives” revenues and increasing women in leadership, ensuring that growth is both sustainable and socially responsible.
