How has DP World Managed to Cut its Emissions by 15%?

DP World is one of the worldâs largest logistics operators and its sustainability efforts are helping to reduce Scope 3 emissions across tens of thousands of supply chains.
The company has reduced its emissions by 15% since 2022 and now sources 65% of its electricity from renewable sources according to its 2024 ESG Report.
âThe journey to a sustainable future is critical,â says Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DP Worldâs Group Chairman and CEO, in the report.
âAs a leader in global trade, we recognise that achieving meaningful change requires sustained innovation, strong partnerships and a clear commitment to our targets.â
Climate commitments and green finance
DP World has worked to reduce its own emissions and help customers transition to lower-carbon supply chains.
In 2024, it became the first logistics company in its region to have its climate targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
DP Worldâs climate action is supported by innovative financial instruments. The company recently issued a US$100m Blue Bond, the first of its kind, to fund ocean conservation and support the blue economy.
Alongside this, it published its first Green Sukuk Impact and Allocation Report, allocating US$1.17bn to green assets focused on low-carbon logistics and infrastructure.
These investments are designed to make a measurable difference, supporting projects that cut emissions, improve energy efficiency and protect biodiversity.
Embedding sustainability
Sustainability is not treated as a separate initiative at DP World, but is integrated into every aspect of its business.
The companyâs âOur World, Our Futureâ strategy guides its work across ports, terminals, logistics and marine services.
DP Worldâs logistics network covers six continents and is supported by 50,000 professionals. The company is reducing emissions through electrification, the use of biofuels and the expansion of rail and barge transport.
AI-powered route optimisation and energy-efficient warehousing further help to cut waste and lower environmental impact.
The companyâs commitment to responsible business extends to its supply chain, with a focus on ethical conduct, safety and security.
Social impact at DP World
With a workforce of more than 115,000 employees in 79 countries, DP World invests in skills development, wellbeing and diversity.
Our World, Our Future places special emphasis on women, education and water, aiming to create lasting positive change in these areas.
Elsewhere, community partnerships play a central role in DP Worldâs approach. It works with organisations such as WaterAid and Bridges to Prosperity to deliver clean water, education and economic opportunities in the communities where it operates.
Through the DP World Foundation, the company supports projects focused on health, education and food security.
The future of logistics
As the effects of climate change begin to set in, they are already disrupting global trade.
Extreme weather events are damaging critical infrastructure like roads, ports and railways, leading to higher costs, delays and longer delivery times.
Decarbonisation in logistics carries the potential to help prevent further climate change, while helping companies to comply with environmental regulations and consumer expectations for sustainability.
