v2Technology Giants Address Sustainability at Europe's €200bn Investment Forum IBM, Airbus and TotalEnergies executives discuss green technology

Technology firms including IBM, Airbus, Honeywell and TotalEnergies will present their sustainability initiatives at GITEX EUROPE as part of Europe’s €200bn investment programme in AI, quantum computing, cloud infrastructure, semiconductors and data storage.

The investment initiative comes as Germany prepares to host GITEX EUROPE x Ai Everything from 21-23 May at Messe Berlin, where the GITEX Green Impact track will showcase technologies addressing environmental challenges. The event will bring together technology firms in a market where Germany’s ICT sector is projected to reach €232.8bn in 2025 according to Statista data.

Franziska Giffey, Mayor of Berlin and Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises, said: "Partnering with one of the largest tech and startup global events and hosting the debut of GITEX EUROPE in Berlin strengthens our commitment to solidifying Germany's position as a global magnet for investment and frontier-pushing technologies, spearheading Europe’s edge in the next digital decade."

The European Commission has integrated environmental requirements throughout its investment programme, mandating energy efficiency standards for computing infrastructure and carbon footprint reporting for funded initiatives. Technology firms must demonstrate sustainability commitments to access funding, creating opportunities for green technology providers.

The Berlin exhibition is organised by KAOUN International with support from the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Berlin Partner for Business and Technology and the European Innovation Council.

Airbus and Honeywell Sustainability Leaders Address Environmental Technology Implementation at GITEX Green Impact

The exhibition will convene over 1,400 technology enterprises from more than 100 countries, including environmental monitoring systems, energy management platforms and carbon accounting software providers. Sustainability-focused firms will demonstrate solutions alongside technology companies including AWS, IBM, Cisco, Cloudflare, Dell, Fortinet, Lenovo, NTT, Nutanix, Nvidia, Opswat and SAP.

Trixie LohMirmard, CEO of KAOUN International and EVP of Dubai World Trade Centre

Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of KAOUN International, said: "Amid the AI whirlwinds, there is a coordinated consensus and renewed urgency and unity across Europe to assert its digital sovereignty and leadership as a global innovation force. The region is paving its way as a centre-stage where AI, quantum and deep tech supremacy will be debated, developed and scaled."

The conference programme includes more than 500 speakers addressing environmental technology trends and green investment opportunities. Speakers include Julie Kitcher, Chief Sustainability Officer at Airbus; Gavin Towler, Chief Scientist for Sustainability Technologies & CTO at Honeywell; Lisa Reehten, Managing Director of Bosch Climate Solutions; and Mounir Benaija, CTO for EV & Charging Infrastructure at TotalEnergies.

Technical sessions will examine applications of artificial intelligence in environmental management, including climate modelling, resource optimization and energy grid management. Discussions will address the environmental impact of AI systems and strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of compute-intensive applications.

The dedicated GITEX Green Impact track will connect innovators and investors exploring green hydrogen, bioenergy and energy storage technologies. Sessions will cover carbon accounting methodologies, environmental reporting standards and ESG investment criteria, with presentations from technology providers developing systems to support sustainability reporting and compliance.

Alessandro Curioni, IBM Fellow, Vice President Europe and Africa and Director IBM Research Zurich, said: "IBM's investments in AI and quantum computing directly reflect our commitment to Europe, and underscore the key role of collaboration with industry, academia and policymakers for a pan-European ecosystem. These state-of-the-art technologies and facilities will foster innovation, creating new opportunities for talent attraction and ensuring that Europe will always be at the forefront of global technological advancements."

Green Technology Startups Connect with US$1tn Investment Pool at North Star Europe and Climate Forum

The investment component of GITEX EUROPE includes North Star Europe, which will host more than 750 startup ventures including environmental technology firms focused on renewable energy systems, circular economy solutions and climate monitoring technologies.

The event will attract over 600 investors managing assets of approximately US$1tn, including Germany's Earlybird VC, Austria's SpeedInvest, Switzerland's B2Venture, Estonia's Startup Wise Guys and SOSV from the United States. For environmental technology founders, the exhibition represents an opportunity to secure funding for expansion into European markets.

Europe's largest inaugural tech, startups and digital investment event will converge the region's most innovative startups, scaleups, SMEs and unicorns

A new platform called GITEX ScaleX will cater to scale-ups and later-stage companies, with dedicated sessions for environmental technology firms looking to expand operations across European markets. The programme will address regulatory compliance requirements, carbon border adjustment mechanisms and sustainability reporting obligations.

With small and medium enterprises constituting 99% of European businesses, GITEX SMEDEX will connect environmental technology providers with potential clients and development partners. The initiative has support from EISMEA and ICC Digital Standards Initiative, featuring speakers such as Milena Stoycheva, Chairperson of Board of Innovation at Bulgaria's Ministry of Innovation and Growth, and Oliver Grün, President of European Digital SME Alliance and BITMi.

Data centre energy efficiency will receive particular attention, with sessions addressing power usage effectiveness, renewable energy integration and heat reuse strategies. For environmental technology firms developing solutions for the computing sector, the programme will provide access to potential clients from across the technology infrastructure landscape.

The exhibition will address the environmental impact of quantum computing, which European governments have supported with €7bn in research funding. Sessions will examine the material requirements, energy consumption patterns and cooling system implications of quantum computing facilities.
