TomTom & smart have partnered to enhance electric driving
TomTom has partnered with smart to deliver advanced EV navigation, boosting sustainable mobility, safety and efficient journeys for all-electric vehicles

TomTom, a global leader in location technology, is redefining sustainable mobility with its latest partnership-providing advanced navigation solutions for smart’s new generation of all-electric vehicles.

This collaboration is more than a technological upgrade – it is a testament to TomTom’s commitment to sustainability, safety and the future of green transportation.

How is TomTom removing barriers to EV adoption?

The partnership between TomTom and smart, the premium all-electric vehicle brand, places TomTom’s full-stack navigation systems at the heart of smart’s infotainment platforms for the #1, #3, and #5 models.

Yang Jun, Global CTO, smart

"TomTom's leadership in navigation technology perfectly complements smart's commitment to delivering premium, electric and connected vehicles," says Yang Jun, Global CTO at smart.

“By incorporating real-time traffic data, EV charger availability and individual driving styles, we ensure our drivers have access to optimal charging stops and seamless route adjustments, making electric driving even more convenient and enjoyable.”

These vehicles now benefit from TomTom’s real-time traffic insights, local hazard alerts and dynamic rerouting to ensure safer, smoother and more efficient journeys for drivers around the world.

But the impact goes deeper.

By integrating TomTom’s advanced EV services, smart’s drivers gain access to one of the world’s most comprehensive charging station databases – more than 1.8 million charge points across 90 countries, including real-time availability at more than 800,000 locations.

This addresses one of the main barriers to EV adoption – range anxiety.

Drivers can confidently plan longer trips, knowing they have up-to-the-minute information on charging infrastructure, compatible stations and even amenities nearby.

Cutting emissions and optimising mobility

TomTom’s navigation technology is designed to do more than get drivers from A to B.

By providing real-time traffic data and optimised routing, TomTom helps reduce congestion and emissions – a core element of its sustainability strategy.

Efficient route planning means less time spent idling in traffic and fewer unnecessary detours, directly contributing to lower vehicle emissions and cleaner air in urban environments.

This aligns with TomTom’s broader environmental goals. The company has pledged to achieve a science-based net zero target and continually seeks to minimise its own operational footprint, while empowering customers and partners to do the same.

TomTom’s data is also used by cities and governments to model sustainable scenarios, optimise public transport and inform infrastructure investments that further reduce emissions and promote resource efficiency.

Enhancing safety with advanced driver assistance

Safety is another pillar of TomTom’s sustainability ethos.

The integration of TomTom’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) maps into smart’s vehicles provides drivers with up-to-date speed limits compliant with European ISA and EuroNCAP safety regulations.

These features not only help drivers stay within legal limits but also support safer, more predictable driving behaviour-reducing the risk of accidents and contributing to safer roads for all.

Social and ethical responsibility

Sustainability at TomTom extends beyond environmental impact. The company fosters a diverse, inclusive workforce representing more than 80 nationalities and invests in people development to ensure that its team can innovate for a better future.

TomTom’s commitment to ethical business practices and transparency underpins its approach to ESG principles, ensuring that its growth benefits society as a whole.

Partnering for sustainable mobility

TomTom recognises that achieving sustainable mobility requires collaboration.

By partnering with automakers like smart and sharing high-quality data with city planners, TomTom accelerates the transition to electric vehicles and supports the creation of sustainable, connected cities.

Benoit Joly, SVP Sales, TomTom

"We are thrilled to partner with smart to enhance their new generation of zero-emission electric vehicles with our advanced mapping and location data," says Benoit Joly, SVP Sales at TomTom.

"We've optimised the infotainment system to provide a seamless navigation solution, combining our high-precision maps and real-time traffic insights to deliver a great EV experience."

These partnerships are essential to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 11 for sustainable cities and communities.
