How J&T Express is Reducing Supply Chain Emissions

Founded a decade ago, J&T Express is dedicated to offering integrated logistics solutions to customers across 13 countries.
As the company expands, its environmental footprint could too.
The company's ESG Report for 2024 shows J&T's commitment to sustainability across initiatives in green logistics, employee safety, information security and innovation.
“A commitment to both efficiency and sustainability is essential for building a healthy and long-lasting business," says Charles Hou, Group Vice President at J&T Express.
"J&T prioritises the practical implementation of sustainable development measures throughout our operations."
Working towards a sustainable future
J&T Express expanded its green logistics strategy in 2024 by enhancing environmental practices across its supply chain.
A key development is the company's first self-built smart supply chain industrial park in Baoying County, Jiangsu province, China.
The facility's 74,000 square metres of rooftop solar panels generated 1,089,760 kilowatt-hours of electricity by the end of 2024, expected to cut annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 7,880 tonnes.
J&T's "four-in-one" green transport model focuses on fuel consumption monitoring, driver energy-saving training and optimised route and fuel structure planning.
In Vietnam, the company aims to reduce fuel usage by one litre per 100 kilometres.
In China, 4,401 aluminium trailers, each 1.5 tonnes lighter than steel counterparts, were introduced to boost energy efficiency.
The company has also invested in clean energy vehicles, deploying 1,327 liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles in China by the end of 2024.
This makes LNG vehicles 26% of the Chinese fleet, decreasing greenhouse gas emissions per parcel delivered by nearly 4%.
J&T is also advancing a global rollout of eco-friendly materials, including reusable transit bags and degradable packaging products.
In Southeast Asia and new markets, 799,000 new reusable transit bags were introduced in 2024, marking an 80.7% increase from 2023.
Making a social impact
J&T Express has also enhanced its employee safety initiatives, conducting almost 60,000 safety training sessions in 2024 with more than a million participants, ensuring a secure working environment.
In social welfare, J&T supports various communities:
- In Vietnam, the company assists farmers with harvesting, logistics and online sales.
- In Brazil, logistics capabilities facilitated the delivery of 300 tonnes of relief materials to flood-affected areas.
- In Indonesia, the 'J&T Connect Preneur' programme supported MSMEs with funding, awarding 300 million Indonesian Rupiah to ten standout businesses.
- In the Philippines and Thailand, educational materials and scholarships were provided to schools.
A focus on information security
J&T Express upholds transparency and anti-corruption policies globally, completing 94,146 anti-corruption training sessions in 2024 to reinforce ethical standards.
Information security remains a priority, with a layered framework for data protection, including training and awareness campaigns.
The company achieved ISO 27001 certification in several Asian countries, enhancing secure data practices.
As J&T surpassed 100 million in global daily parcel volume, it expanded its technological capabilities by integrating drones and unmanned vehicles into its logistics network, advancing towards automated and intelligent delivery systems.
"In 2024, we not only achieved breakthroughs in green logistics management, but also continued to promote social welfare and improve the company’s governance framework," continues Charles.
"These tangible initiatives align with our long-term vision and deliver positive, effective results in our operational processes.
"Looking ahead, we will continuously build intelligent infrastructure, establish a digital logistics network, champion environmentally conscious operations across our entire logistics chain and contribute to global sustainable development."
