Mondelēz International’s 2024 ‘Snacking Made Right’ report highlights how procurement is integral to the company’s strategy for sustainable growth

Mondelēz International's 2024 ‘Snacking Made Right’ report examines how the company, and its world-leading brands, approaches sustainability.

The business aims to foster positive outcomes for both communities and the climate, ensuring long-term business resilience.

With 70% of its carbon footprint tied to raw materials, procurement remains crucial for Mondelēz in achieving its net zero emissions target by 2030.

“I’m proud of our team for staying focused and agile in challenging times," comments Dirk Van de Put, Chair and CEO of Mondelēz International.

"The progress detailed in this report would not be possible without our dedicated and passionate people; our strong partnerships with suppliers, customers and non-governmental organisations (NGOs); and our multiple collaborations with industry coalitions, including the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) and the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF).

“As we progress in 2025, we remain focused on executing with excellence against our long-term growth strategy, including continuing to invest in our focused approach to creating a more sustainable business at scale.”

Responsible sourcing

Mondelēz prioritises sustainable ingredient sourcing through programmes designed to enhance community and environmental resilience.

Key initiatives include:

  • Cocoa Life: This US$1bn initiative addresses child labour, uplifts farmer livelihoods and promotes agroforestry. By 2024, 91% of the cocoa for its chocolate brands was sourced via Cocoa Life, with an aim to reach 100% by 2025.
  • Harmony Wheat: This programme encourages regenerative practices and biodiversity protection, ensuring 100% coverage for European biscuit production.

Sustainable sourcing is seen as critical to the resilience of the communities and environments Mondelēz sources from, as well as to its overall business success.

The company has established a Procurement Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct outlining environmental and social expectations.

Strategic sourcing is guided by sustainability, service and cost considerations.

Christine Montenegro McGrath, Chief Impact & Sustainability Officer at Mondelēz, says: “Focusing on collaboration across all stakeholders remains at the heart of our sustainability strategy. I’m grateful to work alongside talented, dedicated teams at Mondelēz International, as well as passionate partners in the supplier, customer and NGO communities.
