Siemens & Mennekes: Expanding eMobility Infrastructure

Electric vehicles (EVs) offer a dramatically more sustainable transport alternative to fossil-fuel powered vehicles, but one of consumersâ biggest concerns is charging infrastructure.
A long car journey doesnât usually require route adjustments to fill up at a petrol station as they are so abundant, but EV chargers can be few and far between.
Siemens Smart Infrastructure has partnered with Mennekes to simplify and improve power distribution planning for eMobility charging infrastructure.
Mennekes is the first partner to join the Simaris software ecosystem, giving electrical partners access to its industrial eMobility portfolio.
âThis partnership allows us to offer our customers everything from a single source for fast and easy planning of sustainable e-charging infrastructure,â says Stephan May, CEO of Electrification and Automation, Siemens Smart Infrastructure.
âTogether we are accelerating the energy transition.â
What is Simaris?
Siemensâ Simaris suite is a collection of advanced software tools designed to support the efficient planning, design and configuration of electrical power distribution systems.
The Simaris suite includes specialised tools such as:
- Simaris Design: A tool that facilitates the dimensioning of electrical networks from medium voltage to the socket outlet, automating tasks like equipment selection, short-circuit current calculation and load flow analysis
- Simaris Project: Focussed on project planning through supporting users to calculate budgets, generate task lists and integrate project data
- Simaris Configuration: Supports the digital engineering process by allowing consistent and easy design of distribution systems through simplifying the selection and configuration of components such as switchgear
- Simaris Curves: For analysing device settings without creating a full project, such as through comparing and visualising tripping characteristics.
âWe are excited that Mennekes is the first external partner in our Simaris ecosystem, giving customers direct access to their product portfolio,â says Andreas MatthĂ©, CEO of Electrical Products at Siemens Smart Infrastructure.
âThis will make power distribution planning for eMobility infrastructure even simpler.â
About Mennekes
Mennekes is a German manufacturer of industrial plugs and connectors.
Founded in 1935, it has an extensive portfolio of eMobility solutions for both private and business customers.
It entered the eMobility market in 2008 and created the Mennekes Type 2 connector, now incorporated in the international IEC 62196 standard.
This connector has become the standard for all of Europe and Mennekes now has a global presence across more than 90 countries.
Mennekes’ e-charging solutions are simple and efficient to install, but this partnership will integrate the preliminary planning steps for reliable energy distribution for this infrastructure, making it even easier.
Christopher Mennekes, CEO of Mennekes, says: “For years, we have been offering not just customised charging solutions, but also a wide range of services for planners.
“By partnering with Siemens and integrating our charging infrastructure into Simaris, we are continuing along this path and making day-to-day work easier for planners.”
This collaboration is promoting eMobility and, therefore, hopes to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the transportation sector.
