This Earth Day, Sylvain Filippi, Managing Director and CTO of Envision Racing, explores how e-mobility will support global electrification

Last week, in Miami, we had the honour of accepting an award from EARTHDAY.ORG, the world’s largest environmental movement. The recognition named us official Ambassadors of E-Mobility as part of the organisation’s annual theme – ‘Our Power. Our Planet.’ It was a proud moment – but more importantly, it was a powerful reminder that the work we do in Formula E has a real-world impact far beyond the race track.

As a racing team, our natural focus is to win races. But as an organisation born from Envision Group – a global leader in green technology – our true purpose is progress in the race against climate change. The mission is simple but urgent: use the power and platform of motorsport to accelerate the shift to electric vehicles and renewable energy.

Sustainability needs a deadline.

In a year when Earth Day marks its 55th anniversary by calling for the global generation of clean electricity to triple by 2030, this message could not be more important.

From race to reality

Racing has always been about pushing boundaries and innovating with the latest technology. At Formula E, we’re taking it to the next level.

For example, the latest innovation this season – Pit Boost – sees the cars make a 30-second pitstop for 10% extra energy via a 600kW super charger. This kind of technology would have an enormous impact on the EV market today.

At Envision Racing, that mindset extends far beyond racing too. We use the platform motorsport gives us to collaborate with governments and corporations, inspire a global audience and drive urgent climate action.

Through our Race Against Climate Change campaign, we connect millions of fans to solutions they can adopt today – whether that’s choosing an EV, reducing personal emissions or advocating for cleaner energy policies.

The award we received from Earth Day was not for a single project but for our philosophy – we must harness the spirit of competition to spark true transformation.

The e-mobility revolution

There still seems to be a lingering misconception that electric mobility is a potential future solution to the climate crisis. In reality, it is happening – and it’s working – now.

In cities across the world, EV adoption is rising. Infrastructure is expanding. And innovations in storage, smart grids and clean generation are rapidly making fossil-fuel dependence obsolete.

But awareness and access remain key barriers. That’s where we, as a racing team, play a unique role. Every time we hit the track, we’re not just showcasing cutting-edge electric tech - we’re engaging a global audience in what e-mobility looks like when it’s exciting, effective and real.

We’re showing the next generation of engineers, drivers and decision-makers that this transition isn’t a sacrifice - it’s an opportunity.

Accelerating to 2030 - together

The science is clear: we must act now. EARTHDAY.ORG’s call to triple clean electricity generation by 2030 isn’t a political statement, but a necessity for the planet.

That’s why Envision Racing continues to build partnerships across industries and governments. At our official Earth Day event in Miami, we brought together leaders from technology, transport, and energy to have exactly these conversations: What’s working? Where are the gaps? How can we collaborate to close them faster?

Racing teaches you a lot about efficiency, adaptability, and teamwork. These same principles apply to the climate challenge. No single solution or sector can win this alone. But together, we can accelerate progress in ways we once thought impossible.

Having an impact that lasts

Being recognised as an Ambassador of E-Mobility is incredibly meaningful for our team. But the true win will come when we no longer need that title - because clean transport will have become the norm, not the exception.

Until then, we’ll keep doing what we do best: pushing the limits, breaking new ground, and racing not just for trophies, but for a planet worth inheriting.
