How Accenture is influencing sustainability progress
In its 360° Value Report, Accenture outlines its goals and progress for promoting sustainability and diversity and inclusion to its clients.
It has adopted net zero targets to achieve a 90% reduction of absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2040 from its fiscal 2019 base year.
Accenture achieved its goal of using 100% renewable electricity in its facilities in 2023 and it maintained this level in FY 2024.
It aims to continue pushing towards energy efficiency by expanding its use of smart meters which can help inform its energy management decisions.
Julie Sweet, Chair and Chief Executive Officer at Accenture, says: âWe appreciate each of our 774,000 people for their innovation, insight and incredible talent.
“They continually raise the bar for what we can accomplish for our clients, the industries we serve and the communities where we live and work.”
Sustainability in the supply chain
Accenture aims to create more sustainable and inclusive supply chains through responsible buying and generating long-term value for its clients, suppliers and communities.
It expects its suppliers to prioritise environmental sustainability and provide updates on their carbon emission reduction initiatives and impacts.
It helps support suppliers in assessing their decarbonisation progress and developing roadmaps towards their sustainability goals.
Stephanie Jamison, Sustainability Services Lead for Accenture, says: “At Accenture, we see every day as an opportunity to act with purpose.
âFrom helping clients adopt renewable energy to embedding sustainability across the value chain, weâre proud to be part of a movement thatâs shaping a more sustainable future.â
Promoting an inclusive work culture
Diversity and inclusion is a priority for Accenture, with women representing 48% of its workforce.
It aims to foster a culture where all of its people feel a sense of belonging and can more effectively help its clients reinvent their businesses.
Its target is to build inclusive and diverse teams to create better and more innovative solutions that reach more people and reflect the needs of its clients and stakeholders.
Accenture is building accessibility practices into its work and encourages its clients to implement the practices themselves.
It provides training to help its employees avoid unconscious bias and remove barriers to inclusion.
In FY 2024, its unconscious bias learning course was completed by more than 131,000 new starters, as well as training on identifying and reporting racism.
Accentureâs net zero practices
Accenture has introduced initiatives to help achieve its net zero targets.
It has invested in nature-based carbon removal projects which are targeted to reforest land, improve biodiversity and ecosystem resilience and make agriculture more sustainable.
It has also created a goal to reuse or recycle 100% of its electronic waste and office furniture by the end of 2025.
During FY 2024, Accenture recycled or reused nearly 100% of its e-waste relating to computers, servers and uninterruptible power supply devices.
Accenture has eliminated single-use plastics in its facilities since 2023 and has instead purchased reusable and plastic free items.
Stephanie says: âEmbracing next-generation technologies and reinventing business models are among the actions we can take to accelerate change.â
