Waste management: avoiding landfill

Waste can have a significant negative impact on the technology sector through environmental pollution, potential health hazards and issues around improper disposal.

Dell Technologies aims to reduce waste through its Zero Waste Programme by helping suppliers to dispose of waste safely and reduce the waste they produce.

It works with suppliers to identify alternative options to reduce or reuse waste that would usually go to landfill.

Through its Zero Waste Programme, it helps suppliers implement solutions including composting, incineration and other end-of-life recovery opportunities like reuse and recycling.

In 2024, Dell helped 21 of its suppliers to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.

The circularity of Dell’s products

Dell Technologies is committed to promoting the circular economy which accelerates the development of sustainable technologies and business solutions.

Its goal is for more than half of its product content to be made from recycled, renewable or reduced carbon emissions material by 2030.

Since 2007, it has recovered more than 1.3 billion kg of used electronics thanks to its recycling efforts and partnerships.

It has been working towards progress in each area of its products’ lifecycle, which starts with using sustainable materials in the first stage of manufacturing.

Dell Technologies has increased the amount of recycled or renewable materials in its packaging, as well as offering multipack services and lower-emissions shipping options.

It has also designed its products with waste reduction and ease of repair in mind, which keeps products in circulation for longer.

When products reach end-of-life, Dell offers recovery and recycling services so customers can easily retire their old products.

This minimises waste and reduces the demand for new raw materials.

Dell’s takeback services are used to recover retired IT equipment and prioritise the reuse of products and components before recycling the remaining materials.

Building an inclusive workforce

As well as its sustainability commitments, Dell Technologies is focusing on diversity and inclusion.

Its aim is for 50% of its global workforce and 40% of its global people leaders to be those who identify as women by 2030.

It is fostering an inclusive corporate culture and building an inclusive culture where people can be their authentic selves.

Dell’s Centres of Excellence help team members with visible and invisible disabilities by providing them with assistive technology.

It offers training and support as well as hardware and software including braille keyboards, speech-to-text tools and screen readers.

Dell Technologies also encourages its team members to volunteer during their work days.

It offers vouchers to team members that log 10 or more hours of volunteering that can be donated to chosen charities.
