DuPont: Value Creation Through Sustainable Innovation

It focuses on sustainable innovation, for example solving water treatment challenges, addressing needs in healthcare for medical devices and enabling AI for advanced computing.

DuPont’s sustainability goals

Part of DuPont’s sustainability strategy focuses on protecting people and the planet, including its target to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

In the company’s 2025 sustainability report, it says that it has reduced its Scopes 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 66% since 2019.

It has also achieved a 60% reduction in Scope 3 emissions from a 2020 baseline, continuing to surpass its 2030 goal of a 25% reduction.

In 2024, DuPont received an A- Climate score from CDP for the second consecutive year, as well as being named as a finalist for the World Sustainability Awards’ Carbon Reduction Award.

The company aims to implement low-carbon industrial processes, in order to cut down on emissions in its operations and value chain.

For example, it converted its building envelope insulation and air-sealing products to low-GWP (global warming potential) blowing agent solutions, including its spray foam and Styrofoam products.

Who leads digital sustainability at DuPont?

The Global Head - Digital & Agentic Innovation & Sustainability Strategy at DuPont is Dr. Jutta Pils, who drives digital transformation to accelerate environmental impact.

Her work focuses on applying analytics, digital platforms and generative AI to solve complex challenges.

She aims to boost operational efficiency, strengthen data intelligence and maximise the value of sustainability investments, across the company and through its value chain.

Jutta began her career in discovery and development at DuPont Crop Protection and later was a Six Sigma Black Belt in sales and marketing, bringing together science, business strategy and innovation.

Before rejoining DuPont, she led R&D at a chemical surfactant company, advancing water-saving technologies for arid regions and promoting innovations in resource efficiency.

Beyond her corporate work, Jutta chairs a scientific review committee supporting agricultural sustainability research in the Middle East.

She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Soil Chemistry and Water Resources from Iowa State University and an Executive MBA from Temple University.

Her passion for nature extends to coral reef restoration and underwater photography, underscoring her commitment to environmental stewardship in all aspects of life.
