Companies like Crown Estate, Enel X, Gravity and Ørsted are pathing the way to a sustainable future in the energy sector through innovative design

The energy transition refers to the gradual and steady shift of global energy use from fossil based sources to a zero emission system by 2050, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

This transition is crucial to support the global goal of reaching net zero and minimising the effects of global warming to 1.5°C as outlined in the Paris Agreement.

Enel reports that a large majority of decarbonisation efforts come from the electrification of consumption, using renewable sources in place of fossil fuels.

What are companies doing to support the transition?

Companies from around the world are facilitating the energy transition with some of the leaders in the sector joining us at Sustainability LIVE London

Crown Estate

Crown Estate has been working in the offshore wind selector since 2000, supporting the government in its commitment to reach net zero by 2050.

The company currently has a 11.86GW operational capacity, which has the power to provide electricity to 11 million homes, 14% of the UK’s total electricity requirements.

Alongside facilitating the energy transition in the UK the company is focused on safeguarding nature to reduce the environmental risk of the increased use of seabed through its offshore Wind Evidence and Change programme.

Enel X

Enel X says it is dedicated to helping the world reach its energy transition goals.

In Great Britain and Ireland the company says it is aiming to maximise the commercial and environmental rewards available from energy flexibility programme participation.

The company says by optimising how and when energy is consumed this allows commercial and industrial scale energy users to leverage flexible energy assets to support a greener and more resilient electricity grid.

Gravity

Gravity is a carbon and energy management platform.

With several industry leaders using the service the company aims to help companies overcome pain points such as the growing price of energy and increased demand on reporting emissions.

The company automates the most time consuming parts of carbon disclosure and empowering customers with the aim to make cost saving energy action and ensuring that sustainability work delivers both cost and emission reductions.
