A partnership through the ages

One of the world's premier logistics providers, Kuehne+Nagel employs more than 82,000 workers across nearly 1,300 sites in around 100 countries.

This vast network enables it to serve 400,000 customers globally as the logistics provider of choice. For more than 130 years, the company has evolved from its origins as a traditional shipping company to the global logistics partner it is today.

Similarly, Airbus, the leading aerospace company in Europe, has a storied history spanning more than five decades. The company is known for its cutting-edge products, services, and solutions for commercial aircraft, helicopters, defense, and space sectors.

The renewed agreement signifies another chapter in a long-standing relationship exceeding 20 years.

Since 2003, when Kuehne+Nagel first partnered with Airbus, both companies have consistently renewed their agreements, strengthening their collaboration in sustainable logistics.

Enhancing operational efficiency

To maintain a competitive edge, Kuehne+Nagel has invested in technologies aimed at advancing operational efficiency and traceability. The introduction of a proprietary warehouse management system, coupled with robotics, reflects this commitment. Applications utilising RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) and IoT (Internet of Things) have been adopted, fostering a more automated, efficient, and quick operation workflow.

These technological advancements reduce the likelihood of human error or delay, ensuring a more streamlined planning and execution. With improved traceability, the partnership can now center its focus more effectively on sustainable practices, ensuring suppliers also adhere to environmentally-conscious methods.

Initiatives to limit the use of cardboard and plastic throughout the supply chain have been implemented, allowing for these new systems to monitor and enforce these reductions efficiently.

“We are honoured to continue supporting Airbus with tailored logistics solutions that integrate digital innovation, operational efficiency, and a commitment to sustainability,” stated Álvaro Nebreda, National Contract Logistics Manager, Spain, K+N.

“This collaboration underscores our dedication to the aerospace sector and highlights our adaptability to meet the evolving demands of our customers.”

A new logistics strategy

The renewed agreement centers around enhancing logistics across Spanish production and storage sites, greatly improving operational efficiency. The expanded scope sees the partnership veer into previously unexplored areas, including helicopter maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities. This agreement will considerably refine logistical operations, covering areas such as in-plant logistics, inter-site transport services, warehouse-to-line deliveries, supply fulfillment center operations, and spare parts management.

The end-to-end supply chain management will extend across various production and storage sites. At present, over 900 Kuehne+Nagel employees are active in 16 Spanish sites, with operations spanning multiple cities including Albacete, Cádiz, Madrid, Sevilla, Toledo, and Zaragoza.

After over two decades of collaboration, it is evident that Kuehne+Nagel and Airbus mutually benefit from this partnership, and both are enthusiastic about further expanding their logistics operations and sustainability efforts.
