Since 2022, McLaren Racing has increased its investment in sustainability, embedding it into its operations.

It was the first motorsport team to hold validated climate targets, aiming to drive collective progress towards a more sustainable future.

McLaren Racing has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, which highlights its latest progress in environmental action and social impact that stretches beyond the world of motorsport.

What are McLaren’s sustainability milestones?

Between 2026 and 2030, McLaren Racing aims to achieve a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and maintain its investments in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for business travel.

It has partnered with Ecolab, enabling it to cover 100% of its aviation business travel emissions using SAF certificates.

The company is addressing the impact of air travel as one of the biggest opportunities to reduce emissions in the short term.

This partnership is helping to accelerate the transition to lower-carbon aviation by scaling cleaner fuels and demonstrating the power of climate action in Formula 1.

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, says: “At McLaren Racing, we are uniquely placed to harness our expertise in technology, innovation and rapid research and development and apply those insights to the world of sustainability.

“In fact, we have a dedicated team in McLaren Accelerator who does just that – work with partners to apply F1 and motorsport know-how and problem-solving capabilities across other industries to help optimise processes and find solutions.

“Reading this report, there are many more things to be proud of – 100% of our business travel and F1 charter logistics are now covered by our significant investment in sustainable aviation fuel, we reduced our operational emissions by 39% and we were ranked in the Top 75 most sustainable companies by Sustainability Magazine.”

Sustainability progress and performance

McLaren Racing has formed a partnership with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation (GBRF), helping to scale restoration approaches and supporting reefs in recovering and adapting to a changing climate.

Coral reefs are among the most vulnerable ecosystems on the planet, with 90% at risk of being lost by 2050, according to the report.

In 2025, McLaren made a major breakthrough by developing the Operational System for Coral Assembly and Restoration (OSCAR).

OSCAR is a robotic assembly system that can prepare corals for planting by building coral restoration devices at scale and at reduced cost.

This technology could increase coral production by up to ten times while reducing costs by up to 80%, marking an important milestone in McLaren’s coral restoration efforts.

Health & wellbeing

McLaren Racing has created the McLaren Performance Hub (MPH), a state-of-the-art facility offering services including physiotherapy and yoga classes at no cost to team members.

This can remove the time and cost barriers preventing people from prioritising their health and wellbeing.

In 2025, the company saw an increase in MPH popularity, with 47% of people using it at least once a week throughout the year.

Throughout 2026, it aims to continue using data to inform its monthly campaigns, aligning with national awareness campaigns such as Mental Health Awareness Week and Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.

Dr Amanda Gemmill, General Practitioner at McLaren Performance Hub, says: “I’m incredibly proud to be part of the McLaren Performance Hub and to see the real difference it makes, not just to people’s physical health, but to their confidence and peace of mind.

“It’s about more than appointments; it’s about building trust, offering guidance and helping people feel supported, empowered and able to thrive.”

Protecting the planet

Circularity is a main priority for McLaren Racing, as it empowers its teams to reduce waste and emissions, rethinking how it designs, uses and retains the value of materials.

In 2021, it set its ambition to create a circular Formula 1 car, recognising the need to reduce life-cycle emissions in the manufacturing process.

To achieve this, McLaren Racing is working closely with suppliers and recyclers to develop systems to improve material circularity.

This has involved trialling bio-derived, recyclable and recycled alternatives for key materials in car manufacturing and trialling zero-waste manufacturing processes.

Kim Wilson, Director of Sustainability at McLaren Racing, says: “Performance is about how you achieve as much as what you achieve – and for me, that means delivering it sustainably.

“In 2025, we’ve applied the same racing mindset to our sustainability programme, looking at where sustainability and performance genuinely come together and where the two can strengthen each other.

“In racing, performance is built on discipline, precision, learning quickly and always looking for the next marginal gain. I believe that same mindset can help us not only make our sport more sustainable, but also create positive impact far beyond our own footprint.”
