SLR’s acquisition of Planetrics and ClimSystems develops its climate-modelling & analytics platforms, strengthening SLR’s digital climate-intelligence

As the climate crisis reshapes global risk, organisations face pressure like never before to make decisions grounded in science rather than assumption.

Climate intelligence – the fusion of advanced data, modelling and foresight – has become essential for companies, investors and governments navigating uncertainty.

As temperatures rise and extreme weather events become more frequent, traditional risk models built on historical data no longer capture the pace of change.

Executives across energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, real estate and finance are recognising that understanding climate risk means measuring how floods, droughts, heatwaves, wildfires and shifting rainfall patterns translate into financial impact.

From asset depreciation to supply chain disruption, these complex variables now define corporate resilience – and demand next-generation tools built for precision.

Expanding a digital frontier

To meet this accelerating demand, SLR has announced the launch of its enhanced Digital Services following the acquisition of two leading climate-modelling and analytics platforms – Planetrics and ClimSystems.

The move positions SLR at the vanguard of climate intelligence, offering clients unrivalled insights into how environmental change shapes long-term operational and financial performance.

“Our clients are navigating a new level of  complexity – balancing transition opportunities, physical climate impacts, and the transformation  required for long-term risk, resilience and reward,” says Bradley Andrews, CEO at SLR.

“In this environment, confidence is only possible  with robust scientific evidence.

“For more than 30 years, SLR has been Making Sustainability Happen by combining deep technical expertise, strategic advisory and cutting‑edge digital intelligence to  give clients not only clarity and assurance, but science‑based foresight and insight they can act on.

Bradley Andrews, CEO at SLR

“Today marks a major milestone in SLR’s digital journey. With the integration of Planetrics and ClimSystems, we have two of the most advanced climate platforms enabling organisations to  quantify climate risks, explore multiple futures, and understand how physical and transition impacts  translate into operational outcomes and financial value-at-risk across assets and portfolios.”

Precision through partnership: Planetrics

The first of the acquisitions, Planetrics – acquired from McKinsey & Company – delivers advanced climate scenario modelling through its acclaimed PlanetView platform.

Trusted by major banks, insurers, and asset managers, PlanetView converts physical and transition risks into clear financial metrics, helping institutions see how climate scenarios may affect earnings, asset values and portfolio performance.

Its modelling capabilities underpin regulatory stress tests and disclosures conducted by authorities such as the Bank of England and the European Central Bank, and feature prominently in frameworks like TCFD, ISSB and CSRD.

Beyond compliance, PlanetView provides clarity to those seeking to understand how various policy or energy transition pathways might influence business outcomes and valuations.

SLR and Planetrics will continue collaborating with McKinsey through an ongoing alliance. This partnership ensures continuity for clients while combining world-class strategic advisory networks with advanced data analytics – a union that extends SLR’s reach into board-level business transformation.

Science-driven insight: ClimSystems

On the physical risk front, SLR’s acquisition of ClimSystems consolidates more than two decades of pioneering climate science.

Founded in New Zealand, ClimSystems brings deep expertise in modelling climate hazards and assessing resilience across infrastructure, agriculture, mining and financial sectors. Its analytics suite includes interactive dashboards that quantify asset-level vulnerability to floods, heat stress and evolving climate conditions.

ClimSystems’ tools integrate seamlessly with broader business and financial oversight functions, enabling decision-makers to visualise hazard exposure, assess supply chain resilience and model crop yield fluctuations – all underpinned by IPCC-aligned climate projections.

Its dashboards use geospatial mapping and multi-year data comparisons, turning abstract datasets into accessible, actionable intelligence for organisations worldwide.

Through the acquisition, SLR gains both scientific rigour and technical depth – equipping clients to evaluate climate hazards with precision and context. For industries dependent on long-term asset performance, that visibility translates directly into smarter planning and investment.

SLR’s sustainability mission

SLR’s expansion underscores its longstanding purpose: Making Sustainability Happen.

The global environmental consultancy employs more than 5,000 professionals across Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, working across the full sustainability lifecycle – from strategy to project delivery. Its teams combine expertise across 50+ technical disciplines, including energy, mining, finance, technology, government and infrastructure, and the built environment.

Guided by its philosophy of Rational Sustainability, SLR aims to deliver solutions grounded in evidence, shaped by experience, and built to last. By embedding digital tools and modelling capabilities into its advisory ecosystem, SLR strengthens the link between science and strategic decision-making – a core requirement for credible sustainability leadership.
