XPO is adapting its strategy to foster sustainability, demonstrating that it is not necessary to sacrifice efficiency, cost savings or resilience during this transition.

As supply chains encounter climate-related disruptions, businesses are adjusting strategies to build resilience. Increased customer expectations for eco-friendly operations have turned sustainable practices into a prudent business decision.

Implementing low emission transport solutions

To reduce environmental impact, XPO introduced the LESS (Low Emissions Sustainable Solutions) programme. This initiative encourages alternative fuels, such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), and the deployment of electric vehicles.

The transition to greener fuels remains a cornerstone of the company's long-term strategy. By investing in electric fleets and HVO, XPO provides clients with tangible ways to meet their own corporate social responsibility targets.

Leveraging technology for carbon compliance

The logistics sector is reshaping itself amidst regulatory complexity and carbon compliance. To address these concerns, XPO is modifying its supply chain and procurement strategies.

The company has embedded AI into daily operations, utilising its ExpressNow service for AI-led scheduling. Additionally, XPO Connect serves as an automated marketplace providing virtual access to transportation services.

This system uses machine learning to determine the ideal carrier for each load based on real-time market conditions. This ensures that efficiency, cost savings or resilience do not need to be sacrificed to meet green targets.

"Data-rich planning, AI-led decision-making and digitally connected networks will redefine how goods move," explains Simon Evans, Finance Director for the UK and Ireland, at XPO.

His work focuses on decarbonisation and building long-term environmental resilience. The company seeks to lead the advancement of operational efficiency alongside its net-zero goals.
