Behind InstaVolt's Renewable-Powered Rapid EV Charging Hub

The unveiling of the Winchester Superhub marks a significant enhancement in the UK's EV infrastructure.
This exciting development, the largest ultra-rapid-only EV charging hub in the country, promises an unparalleled blend of speed, accessibility and sustainability, driving forward the nation's shift towards more sustainable transportation methods.
The largest ultra-rapid hub in the UK
Located strategically off the A34, a critical route connecting the south coast with the Midlands and Northwest, the Winchester Superhub is pivotal for facilitating seamless travel across major regions of England.
Its proximity to the M3 enhances its accessibility, further solidifying its role in the UK's transportation infrastructure.
Equipped with 44 ultra-rapid chargers, the hub is capable of delivering up to 160kW of power.
This underscores InstaVolt’s dedication towards transforming the landscape of EV charging.
"The Winchester Superhub isn't just a charging hub — it's a flagship site that sets a new standard for ultra-rapid EV charging," Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, says.
"As our largest and most advanced site to date, it delivers industry-leading reliability at an unprecedented scale, ensuring drivers can charge quickly and confidently."
Unrivalled charging speed and accessibility
The Superhub offers a swift charging capability where compatible EVs can recharge their batteries in about 20 minutes.
- Extended bays for vans and towing vehicles
- Three fully accessible Blue Badge only bays
- Drive-through bays to accommodate larger vehicles
These features demonstrate InstaVolt's attention to detail in catering to the needs of all EV users, addressing the critical demand in the ever-expanding EV market.
Leading the way in sustainability
The Winchester Superhub does not just stand out for its size but also for its commitment to sustainability.
It is equipped with 870 solar panels and a 960kW/4MWh battery storage system.
This setup allows the hub not only to generate but also to store its own renewable energy, significantly cutting down its reliance on the national grid and advancing toward full energy self-sufficiency.
"This site is also a milestone in innovation, marking our first-ever location where we are generating our own renewable energy — pushing the boundaries of sustainability and self-sufficiency in EV charging," Devlin says
- A Starbucks café
- A children's play park
- A designated dog walking area
- Green spaces for relaxation
- 24/7 toilet facilities
Moreover, the Superhub also functions as a comprehensive rest stop, making the charging process not just a necessity but a pleasant break for drivers and their companions.
Redefining the future of EV charging in the UK
The Winchester Superhub is a major leap forward in the UK's efforts to enhance its EV charging infrastructure.
By merging top-tier technology with user-centric amenities, it tackles significant challenges like range anxiety and accessibility, making EV ownership more feasible and attractive.
This ultra-modern facility not only meets the current needs of EV drivers but is also shaping the future trajectory of transport in the UK.
It symbolises the progressive strides being made in the EV sector, steering the nation towards a cleaner and more efficient vehicular future.
