In a bid to enhance its work with many of the world's largest companies, EcoVadis has appointed Dexter Galvin as its new Climate Ambassador

EcoVadis has grown to become a respected global platform that assesses the environmental, social and ethical performance of companies using a standardised sustainability rating system.

Ultimately, it helps businesses monitor and improve their supply chain sustainability by providing detailed scorecards and benchmarking tools.

Now, in a bid to enhance its work with the world's largest companies, EcoVadis has named Dexter Galvin as its new Climate Ambassador.

He brings with him more than 15 years of experience in corporate climate action.

EcoVadis's methodology, which employs a standardised sustainability rating system, assists businesses in monitoring and enhancing supply chain sustainability through comprehensive scorecards and benchmarking tools.

Dexter's appointment supports EcoVadis’s growing push to help organisations reduce Scope 3 emissions and decarbonise their supply chains.

It follows the launch of the EcoVadis Carbon Data Network (CDN), a new solution focused on improving access to primary carbon data across supplier networks.

Who is Dexter Galvin?

Dexter is recognised for his accomplished career in corporate climate transparency.

Prior to his new role, he was the Chief Commercial and Partnerships Officer at CDP, an organisation focused on environmental disclosure.

There, he spearheaded the growth of the supply chain programme to include more than 340 major buyers and in excess of 20,000 suppliers globally.

This initiative encouraged businesses to disclose their environmental impacts, facilitating a deeper understanding of emissions throughout supply networks.

As he steps into his new role at EcoVadis, Dexter Galvin will address a critical challenge in sustainability: the majority of companies are lagging behind in meeting their Scope 3 targets for 2030.

Scope 3 emissions include indirect emissions across a company’s value chain, such as those generated by suppliers and logistics providers.

These emissions often represent the largest component of a company's environmental footprint and are notoriously difficult to quantify due to data inadequacies and limited supplier transparency.

EcoVadis says Dexter will lead efforts to engage with global stakeholders, strategic partners and business networks to tackle Scope 3 emissions.

His position also includes representing EcoVadis at climate forums and supporting its expansion into decarbonisation services.

Pierre-Francois Thaler, Co-Founder and Co-CEO at EcoVadis

"Unlocking the next generation of Scope 3 emissions reduction requires a new level of carbon data reliability that does not exist in the market today," explains Pierre-Francois Thaler, Co-Founder and Co-CEO at EcoVadis.

"Dexter’s experience and expertise will be instrumental as we continue on our mission to decarbonise supply chains faster."

Focusing on carbon data

Dexter's appointment follows the unveiling of EcoVadis’ Carbon Data Network (CDN), a platform designed to address one of the supply chain’s biggest challenges: a lack of accurate carbon information.

CDN provides verified primary carbon data from more than 150,000 organisations, sourced directly from suppliers, to enhance Scope 3 emissions tracking and reporting.

The CDN platform aims to resolve data inconsistencies by standardising reporting practices across supplier ecosystems.

By connecting companies with precise, current figures provided by suppliers, it enables buyers to monitor environmental progress more effectively and take specific measures to reduce emissions.

This tool empowers organisations to transcend self-reported estimates, fostering more robust and targeted decarbonisation strategies.

As per Dexter Galvin, access to high-quality carbon data is indispensable. He states: "EcoVadis offers organisations access to the highest quality primary carbon data available today, playing a crucial role in driving substantial action on reducing emissions and enhancing resilience across the global supply chain."

The vision for sustainability

EcoVadis perceives the CDN as a practical response to the issue of data inconsistency, allowing companies to move beyond basic self-reporting and develop more effective decarbonisation strategies. Pierre-Francois Thaler, Co-Founder and Co-CEO at EcoVadis, notes, "Unlocking the next generation of Scope 3 emissions reduction necessitates a new level of carbon data reliability not currently available in the market."

According to Dexter, access to this type of carbon data is essential.

He adds: “EcoVadis provides organisations access to the highest quality primary carbon data available on the market today and plays a pivotal role in driving meaningful action on reducing emissions and building resilience across the global supply chain.

“This role is an incredible opportunity to work alongside the smartest minds in business sustainability and make an exponential impact at scale."
