Rivian and Ben & Jerry's E-Vans Keep Ice Cream & Planet Cool

Ben & Jerry's and Rivian have teamed up to make a change to the traditional ice cream truck experience.
This partnership has resulted in the creation of two all-electric "scoop trucks", utilising the Rivian Commercial Van platform.
These vehicles are designed to distribute sweet ice cream treats with less of an environmental toll than is typically associated with ice cream trucks.
The electric scoop trucks are set to make their debut at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas before a US-wide tour.
Reinventing the ice cream van
Powered by Rivian’s advanced technology, these trucks will serve up Ben & Jerry’s famous flavours with outstanding reliability and performance, all while reducing environmental impact.
Following its SXSW launch, the scoop truck will travel to various events, including appearances in Ben & Jerry’s home state of Vermont.
The collaboration showcases Rivian’s commitment to providing innovative, sustainable commercial solutions, with the Rivian Commercial Van now available for businesses seeking to transition away from fossil fuels.
In 2023, the world's cars and vans emitted 3.8 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide, which is more than 60% of the road transport sector's emissions.
A wider switch to electric could make a big difference to global emissions.
A shared commitment to sustainability
Ben & Jerry's has consistently championed social and environmental causes.
By integrating all-electric vehicles into its operations, the ice cream pioneer is taking steps towards sustainability.
Sean Slattery, US Integrated Marketing Project Lead at Ben and Jerry’s, says: “Working with Rivian, an industry leader committed to sustainability, is an ice cream dream come true.
"Today, Rivian helped Ben & Jerry’s reduce our reliance on fossil fuels in a small way, while making things a little bit cooler... which, as an ice cream company, is extremely difficult to do”.
The Rivian Commercial Van's 161-mile range ensures that Ben & Jerry's can cover more events, cater to more gatherings and serve a greater number of fans than before.
“Collaborating with the Ben & Jerry’s team to build the next generation of electric scoop trucks has been an incredible experience," says Brian Gase, Senior Director of Prototype Development at Rivian.
"It’s one of those projects that just makes the team smile.
"We can’t wait for people to stop by for some ice cream and see it in action for the first time during SXSW!”
