Climeworks and SAP have entered a partnership to advance decarbonisation
SAP & Climeworks have entered a new partnership to deploy SAP technology, secure 37,000 tons of carbon removal credits & boost corporate sustainability

SAP and Climeworks are on a mission to set new standards for carbon management in the enterprise sector.

A multi-million-euro agreement between the two technology leaders aimed at advancing corporate decarbonisation leverages both technological innovation and strategic investment to secure 37,000 tons of diverse high-quality carbon removal credits.

"Investing in quality carbon removals addresses emissions we can't eliminate directly,” says SAP Chief Sustainability & Commercial Officer, Sophia Mendelsohn.

“Our Climeworks partnership secures high-integrity capacity at preferred rates while protecting against price volatility.

“This investment also strengthens SAP economically - we can now develop new products that meet evolving customer, partner, and regulatory expectations.”

A multi-faceted approach to carbon removal

Under the terms of the agreement, SAP will secure 37,000 tons of high-quality carbon removal credits from Climeworks, to be delivered through 2034.

This portfolio is uniquely tailored to SAP’s business operations and includes a mix of Direct Air Capture (DAC), biochar, and enhanced rock weathering. By diversifying its carbon removal methods, SAP is not only mitigating its own residual emissions but also strengthening its resilience against climate-related risks and price volatility in the carbon market.

Scaling operations with SAP’s cloud solutions

As part of the alliance, Climeworks has adopted SAP’s enterprise solutions—including SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and SAP LeanIX—through the GROW with SAP programme.

This move provides Climeworks with a scalable, future-proof platform to streamline operations, enforce compliance, and optimise financial management, all of which are critical for scaling in the rapidly evolving carbon removal sector.

“Implementing SAP was the right step,” says Christoph Gebald, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Climeworks.

“It ensures compliance, supports our focus on profitability, and allows real-time financial data management.”

Climeworks plans to further expand its use of SAP’s sustainability-focused solutions, including the SAP Sustainability Control Tower, to support its ambitious growth trajectory.

As the pressure mounts on businesses to meet science-based net zero targets, partnerships like this offer a scalable, actionable pathway—transforming climate risk into economic resilience and opportunity.

Pioneering ERP-centric carbon management

Beyond the purchase of carbon credits, SAP and Climeworks are joining forces to co-create next-generation sustainability solutions for businesses worldwide. The collaboration focuses on integrating carbon removal management directly into enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, making it easier for organisations to measure, manage and mitigate their carbon footprints at scale.

The partnership leverages the SAP Sustainability Control Tower and SAP Store, enabling enterprises to access ERP-centric tools for comprehensive carbon portfolio management.

These solutions are designed to empower companies with the data-driven insights needed for effective climate action, transforming sustainability from a compliance requirement into a strategic business advantage.

“Climeworks and SAP share the belief that sustainability is a core element of business strategy,” explains Christoph.

“Through this partnership, we are not only advancing carbon removal as a key solution to mitigate climate change-induced business risks but are also embedding it into enterprise technology, making it easily actionable for businesses worldwide.

“Thereby, companies can build resilience into their operations—turning the shift toward sustainability into an economic opportunity, not a trade-off.”
