Recover-E is Envision Energy’s race car built from e-waste, a bold symbol of circularity that is racing towards a cleaner, more sustainable future

After every Formula E race, hundreds of parts are removed from the cars and checked to see if they can be used again.

Frequent changes in regulation keep the races exciting but mean components like gearboxes and cooling systems can’t always be reused.

Envision Energy India has created India’s first race car, Recover-E, made entirely from e-waste, to promote circularity in technology.

Unveiled in Mumbai in collaboration with EARTHDAY.ORG, Recover-E stands as a beacon of circular economy potential and an urgent call to reimagine waste as a valuable resource.

The Recover-E is only the second of its kind globally and is assembled from discarded mobile phones, laptops and tablets.

Its debut in Mumbai, under the Earth Day 2025 theme Our Power, Our Planet, captured widespread attention and served as a creative platform for sparking dialogue on India’s growing e-waste crisis.

“This initiative is an extension of Envision’s commitment to creating a sustainable future,” says RPV Prasad, Managing Director at Envision Energy India.

“By transforming waste into innovation, we want to highlight that technology and sustainability must coexist.

“The Recover-E Car is not just a concept but a movement towards greener solutions for tomorrow.”

Envision at the World Economic Forum

Envision Energy India took its powerful message on racing and circularity to the global stage.

Last year, the team partnered with the World Economic Forum (WEF) at the 15th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, held in Dalian, China.

This influential gathering united more than 1,500 global leaders from business, government and civil society to explore sustainable economic models and pathways to a carbon-neutral, nature-positive future.

Envision Racing became the first sporting entity to showcase at a WEF meeting, underscoring the ability of sport to mobilise climate action.

“The Recover-E car is a symbolic representation of the growing problem of e-waste and how it can be tackled,” explains James Mercer, Commercial Director at Envision Racing.

“It’s a reminder that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand, and that we all have a role to play in creating a circular future.”

The Recover-E Car will be exhibited as a driveable Formula E race car made entirely from e-waste, drawing attention to the alarming growth of discarded electronics – forecast to reach 82 million tonnes by 2030.

Recover-E also highlights the role that design, reuse and recycling place on and off the race track.

“We’re delighted to have been given the opportunity to partner with the World Economic Forum to showcase how sport can influence and inspire action against climate change at their prestigious 15th Annual Meeting of the New Champions,” says Franz Jung, President of AESC Europe and UK, VP of Envision Energy and Chairman of the Board of Envision Racing.

“As a world-leading green technology company, Envision Energy shares WEF’s vision of a strong economy powered by sustainable innovation, and this is reflected in Envision Racing’s commitment to using its platform to inspire conversations at the highest level on how to make this a reality.

“Through our presence at the event, we’re looking forward to engaging global leaders and influencing meaningful change.”

Evision’s Racing Against Climate Change programme

The Recover-E Car is part of Envision Energy's Race Against Climate Change programme, a long-term initiative to raise awareness of e-waste and champion a circular economy.

The campaign highlights the environmental cost of everyday products, from disposable vapes and MP3 players to phones, plugs and batteries as well as how rethinking their end-of-life impact can avoid the need for energy and resource-intensive mining.

The campaign has already sparked more than 250,000 pledges from young people globally through its Sustainable Chain movement, encouraging individuals to adopt more environmentally conscious behaviours and amplify positive change.

“This year’s theme, Our Power, Our Planet, underscores the urgent need to transition to clean energy and circular practices,” explains Karuna Singh, Regional Director Asia, EARTHDAY.ORG.

“Envision Energy’s Recover-E Car, made entirely from e-waste, exemplifies the spirit of this theme, it is proof that innovation can turn today’s waste into tomorrow’s solutions.”

With a growing global presence from COP28 in Dubai to WEF in China, Envision Energy and Envision Racing are reshaping the narrative of sustainability in sport and technology.

The Recover-E Car is more than a showcase of what’s possible, it’s a challenge to industries, leaders and individuals to embrace circularity, act on climate and drive forward a greener tomorrow.
