Which Companies are in the Coalition for Sustainable AI?

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) presents both unprecedented opportunities and potential challenges for the planet.
The Paris AI Action Summit 2025 highlighted sustainable AI as a crucial dimension of artificial intelligence, encompassing both its development and applications.
To manage this duality, the Coalition for Sustainable AI was launched at the AI Action Summit in Paris in February 2025.
We, the members and supporters of the Coalition for Sustainable AI, affirm our collective commitment to leverage the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) to progress towards the UN Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), focusing in this Coalition on those related to climate action and protection of our environment
The multi-stakeholder global initiative aims to ensure that AI development aligns with environmental considerations, preventing it from exacerbating environmental harm and harnessing its transformative power to accelerate decarbonisation, reduce pollution and protect biodiversity.
Why do we need the Coalition for Sustainable AI?
The coalition recognises that digital and AI infrastructure is poised to become one of the defining infrastructures of the 21st century, complementing vital infrastructures like water, food, health, energy and transport.
Like the industrial revolution, AI technologies have the potential to reshape every facet of our economy. More importantly, they offer unprecedented opportunities to meet climate and environmental objectives by enabling deeper comprehension, analysis, and action on complex systems with a level of holism hitherto unattainable.
The Coalition’s formation acknowledges that the environment and the digital and AI revolution are two defining challenges of our era.
What is the Coalition for Sustainable AI?
The Coalition's mission is twofold: to mitigate the environmental impact of AI itself and to leverage AI to address broader environmental challenges.
- The French government
- United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
- International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
The organisation focuses on identifying global AI initiatives for the environment to share best practices, reach economies of scale, increase efficiency, promote faster adoption and achieve maximum impact.
It also supports knowledge building, metrics, methods and tools to better report on and lower the environmental impacts of AI.
France, in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), initiated the Coalition with support from various organisations.
“I'm proud that Salesforce is one of the initial members, and I hope that many more join on this critical journey,” says Boris Gamazaychikov, Head of AI Sustainability at Salesforce.
“Thanks to the French Government, the UN Environment Programme, and the International Telecommunication Union for organizing this important initiative.”
The Coalition serves as a platform to identify stakeholders committed to the topic and as a hub for giving visibility to open-ended, collaborative international initiatives pursuing the advancement of science, standards and solutions for aligning AI and environmental goals. It will ensure the momentum of sustainable AI continues for future events like AI Summits, COP and other international gatherings, with the involvement of national authorities and international organisations.
