AstraZeneca has been celebrated in Sustainability Magazine's Top 250 Most Sustainable Companies 2025 list

AstraZeneca has secured fifth place in Sustainability Magazine's Top 250 Most Sustainable Companies 2025 list, affirming its status as a global leader in responsible business and pharmaceutical innovation.

This distinction, announced at Sustainability LIVE London in September 2025, comes as AstraZeneca intensifies its commitment to combating climate change and driving ESG leadership worldwide.

“Sustainability Magazine is written and designed in order to explain the granular impact that companies are having today in improving their sustainability footprint,” says Glen White, CEO of BizClik and Sustainability Magazine.

“However, it isn’t written in isolation – it compliments the stories of how executives are implementing their programmes today and what that looks like for the future. That future is not 2040 – it’s 2025, 2026 and the next 18 months that matters – it’s what we are doing today!”

The company’s influence stretches from transformative medicines to ambitious impact programmes that serve millions, all underscored by a sharp focus on decarbonisation, social equity and transparent governance.

Central to AstraZeneca’s ascent in the Top 250 list is its Ambition Zero Carbon programme, an industry-leading strategy led by Chief Sustainability Officer Pam Cheng that targets net zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2045.

Since 2015, AstraZeneca has achieved a 77.5% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, with a clear trajectory to halve its value chain footprint by 2030 and hit a 90% reduction by 2045. This journey is anchored in science-based targets and verified by initiatives like SBTi, reflecting alignment with global standards for climate accountability.

To address its significant Scope 3 footprint – over 95% of total emissions – the company collaborates intensively with suppliers, requiring science-based targets and catalysing green innovation across the network.

AstraZeneca’s commitment is further demonstrated by its innovations in low-GWP inhalers, rapid adoption of renewable energy, and investments in nature-based solutions for carbon removal.
