It is no longer enough for companies to practice recycling and claim they're a sustainable business.

Now, businesses are needing to implement sustainable practices in their logistics, both for the planet and for the success of the company.

DP World is committed to the transformation of its global supply chains and is demonstrating how to smoothly implement sustainable logistics.

Every day, freight volume continues to grow as consumer demand increases and supply chains around the world diversify.

DP World connects businesses across more than 80 countries with its network of ports, logistics hubs and terminals.

With more than 60 ports and terminals around the world, DP World uses its integrated multimodal connectivity to ensure seamless trade flow.

However, such levels of trade bring about tonnes of emissions which are creating harmful long-term effects.

To counteract this, DP World is consistently introducing global sustainability initiatives to ensure it is reducing its carbon footprint.

Its 'Our World, Our Future' strategy prioritises the operation as a responsible business, implementing sustainable practices to ensure the people, environment and communities are protected.

GP World aligns its own ESG efforts with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards in order to hold itself accountable and continue practicing transparency within its operations.

In the UK, DP World is launching a Low Carbon truck Programme (LCTP) which will provide UK HGV fleet owners with an opportunity to use Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) instead of diesel.

"This is an innovative first for the container sector and we estimate that more than 30,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide could be reduced each year if all our trucking partners register," says John Trenchard, Vice President for Sustainable International Supply Chains at DP World.

"Our hope is to encourage early adoption as a transitional step towards the eventual goal of electrification."

Creating sustainable supply chains

Through making green changes to a supply chain, such as using electric vehicles (EVs) or switching to HVO, companies are showing that forming sustainable supply chains doesn't have to be a major change.

As moving towards a low-carbon lifestyle is becoming a necessity to combat climate change, businesses that adapt faster will see the benefits sooner.

Those that take early steps will be more equipped to deal with geopolitical turbulence, such as tariff prices, carbon pricing, resource shortages, customer expectations and extreme weather.

DP World has already been making the change towards a more sustainable business, having already reduced emissions by 13% since its 2022 baseline. Now, it is getting ready to demonstrate how other businesses can make this change.
