How is Haleon Driving Sustainability in its Supply Chain?

Haleon, a prominent British pharmaceutical company, has introduced a new Supplier Hub to improve sustainability and resilience within its supply chain.
The initiative aims to provide Haleon's suppliers with the necessary resources and guidance to align with Haleon's own ambitious environmental objectives.
This strategic move is designed to help decarbonise Haleon's value chain addressing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
Guiding value chain decarbonisation
Formed in 2022 from the consumer healthcare divisions of GSK, Novartis and Pfizer, Haleon stands as one of the worldās largest businesses in its sector.
Its portfolio includes well-known brands such as Sensodyne, Panadol and Advil which are available in 170 countries.
While Haleon itself is relatively new some of its brands possess a heritage stretching back over 170 years. This history underpins a corporate mission focused on delivering better everyday health. Haleonās approach to responsible business includes tackling social and environmental barriers that hinder access to quality healthcare.
Haleon has committed to achieving net zero from source to sale by 2040 and recognises that collaboration with its suppliers is fundamental to reaching this goal.
The Supplier Hub serves as a central platform for this collaboration, providing partners with the tools to support their own sustainability efforts.
Haleon actively seeks to source from suppliers who share its values on environmental protection and human rights.
"Weāve just launched our Supplier Hub: a dedicated space where our suppliers can explore key elements of Haleonās Sustainability programme and access practical tools to support their journey," says Chris Low, Head of Sustainability Procurement & Packaging at Haleon.
By centralising these resources, Haleon is creating an efficient space to ensure its partners can easily access sustainability guidance and onboarding materials.
A framework for sustainable action
The hub is structured to provide clear actionable information for suppliers. It is designed to help them navigate the complexities of sustainability with practical support.
A key component of the platform is a detailed guidance document outlining Haleon’s expectations and standards for its partners.
This resource is intended to foster a shared understanding and a collective effort towards a more responsible supply chain.
"At the heart of the Hub is our new Sustainability Guidance for Suppliers document, designed to help partners take action across critical areas including human rights, sustainable sourcing, decarbonisation and more," Chris explains.
This focus on critical areas could show Haleon's holistic view of sustainability which extends beyond just emissions to include ethical sourcing and social responsibility.
Setting clear supplier expectations
To ensure its supply chain partners contribute effectively to its sustainability goals, Haleon has outlined a clear set of expectations.
Suppliers are asked to commit to several key initiatives which demonstrate their value and alignment with Haleon's long-term vision.
Haleon expects its suppliers to:
- Assess carbon emissions baseline
- Set a science-based target
- Move to 100% renewable electricity
- Define a net-zero roadmap
- Cascade decarbonisation across the supply chain
To incentivise these actions Haleon is leveraging carbon pricing as a commercial mechanism.
This approach could connect sustainable practices directly to economic benefits for its suppliers. Through these measures Haleon is working to build a more resilient and responsible supply network.
"Weāre proud to be working together to build a more sustainable, resilient supply chain, and this Hub is a key step forward," Chris states.
This new platform is a clear indicator of Haleonās dedication to fostering both sustainable and economic growth throughout its extensive global supply chain.
