The road to low-carbon logistics

GEODIS is a company that specialises in global freight, contract logistics, distribution, and express transport, operates in more than 170 countries. The company’s collaboration with EDF builds on its drive to cut emissions throughout its worldwide network.

EDF, the French energy group, develops forward-thinking solutions to accelerate sustainable growth and aims to enable a carbon-neutral energy future. Its innovations touch every sector, from mobility and housing to agriculture, as it works to decarbonise key parts of the economy.

Through this partnership, GEODIS will use EDF’s technical know-how and energy resources to reduce the carbon footprint of its warehouses and transport flows.

In return, GEODIS will support EDF Group with logistics and supply chain expertise to streamline its operations.

"The signing of this agreement marks a decisive step for our Group and is fully aligned with our decarbonisation roadmap," says Marie-Christine Lombard, Chairwoman of the GEODIS Executive Board.

"This partnership allows us to put our expertise at the service of EDF while opening new development opportunities for GEODIS. It reflects the determination of two French leaders to join forces and take concrete, sustainable action for the environment."

How the partnership will work

A Strategic Steering Committee will oversee the progress of the partnership and its various initiatives, ensuring both sides deliver on their commitments.

Meetings will include participation from EDF Group subsidiaries such as Izivia and EDF Power Solutions.

The collaboration will centre around six main areas of action:

  • EDF will supply low-carbon energy to GEODIS sites in France and abroad.

  • Efficiency measures will be introduced through energy audits, consumption plans, and technologies like heat recovery systems.

  • Renewable power will be generated locally, with solar panels and solar carports installed at logistics sites.

  • A network of modern charging stations will be deployed to power GEODIS’s light and heavy vehicles, supporting wider fleet electrification.

  • The partners will explore the potential to upgrade or repurpose GEODIS’s land assets, including converting some sites for data centre use.

  • GEODIS may support EDF’s procurement, storage and distribution needs for energy projects.

Marc Benayoun, EDF Group Executive Director - Customers, Services & Territories Division

"As the logistics sector accounts for 16% of CO₂ emissions in France, its decarbonisation is a critical challenge," explains Marc Benayoun, EDF Group Executive Director in charge of the Customers, Services & Territories Division.

"This partnership demonstrates EDF Group’s ability to support GEODIS, a global leader in transport and logistics, with a comprehensive range of solutions to improve its carbon footprint."
