Net zero by 2050: Grundfos’ sustainability goals

Grundfos was the world’s first water solutions company to have its net zero targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

By 2030, it aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by 25% from a 2020 base year.

Its long term targets are to reduce absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions by a minimum of 90% by 2050 and to neutralise emissions beyond its own value chain.

In 2024, Grundfos achieved a 10.5% reduction in total emissions compared to 2023 and is ahead of its plan to meet its 2030 targets.

Poul Due Jensen, CEO of Grundfos, says: “At Grundfos, we believe water is the most essential resource on the planet. And this resource is under pressure.

“Across the globe, enormous quantities of water are moved around to be used by households, industry and agriculture, and for this purpose, electricity is needed.

“I am immensely proud of our organisation’s ability to push water and energy efficient solutions that enable our customers to optimise their operations and save both water and money.”

Achieving water stewardship

As a company that provides water solutions, Grundfos aims to protect and preserve water as a natural resource.

Its target is to reduce its own water withdrawal by 50% by 2025 based on a 2008 baseline.

In 2024, it achieved 93% of this target through water recovery initiatives which save both water and energy.

The company also aims to enable its end users to save 50 billion cubic metres of water by 2030, reducing water use across its value chain.

Louise Koch, Group Head of Sustainability at Grundfos, says on LinkedIn: “Our purpose is to pioneer solutions to the world’s water and climate challenges and improve quality of life for people.

“It isn’t just about innovative solutions – it’s about the lives we touch.

“Seeing Grundfos solutions in action across the world is a powerful reminder that what we do matters – deeply and everywhere.”

As well as reducing its own water impact, Grundfos aims to deliver water to communities around the world.

Approximately 2.3 billion people globally do not have access to safely managed drinking water, putting their health, education and economic growth at risk.

To help this, Grundfos works closely with governments, water service providers, NGOs and humanitarian organisations to deliver vital water access services.

Grundfos delivered training to more than 640 participants in 2024, providing education on the company’s tools and services, digital tools and disinfection solutions.

This helped the company provide safe water access to 6.4 million people through its direct projects in 2024.
