“I feel deeply grateful, humble and responsible for the trust and confidence placed in me.

“The future excites me. We have a strong foundation, a clear direction and nearly 170,000 amazing colleagues around the world.

“Together, we will make IKEA more affordable, accessible and sustainable for many people.

“We have the opportunity and the responsibility, to amplify the essence of who we are and play an even bigger role around life at home in the world.”

Leadership with sustainability at the core

IKEA’s journey in recent years has been defined by its efforts to balance growth with sustainability.

“IKEA is built on a strong purpose and vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people formed by our founder Ingvar Kamprad and embraced by our nearly 170.000 co-workers,” writes Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, Chairman of Ingka Holding B.V, in an Ingka Group statement.

“Over the last 8 years Jesper has led the company through unprecedented times with a remarkable contribution, transforming IKEA into an omnichannel retailer while accelerating efforts and truly integrating sustainability into the business.

“Under Jesper’s leadership, IKEA has expanded into new markets and cities with a variety of formats, meeting the changing needs of our customers.

"Even if it’s sad to see Jesper leave after 30 years, we have a solid strategy and plan for the coming years and I’m excited about what the future brings.

“Juvencio has extensive experience of IKEA and the retail business and I know he is a great fit for the job ahead.”

Ingka Group, named after IKEA’s founder Ingvar Kamprad, operates 367 of the brand’s 464 stores and employs nearly 170,000 people worldwide.

The company’s business model, built on providing affordable and high-quality furniture, has evolved to include a strong sustainability agenda:

  • Renewable energy investment
  • Circular economy principles
  • Commitments to reducing its carbon footprint.

Jesper’s time as CEO saw a significant acceleration of this agenda, with IKEA embedding sustainability at the core of its strategy while transforming into an omnichannel retailer.

“After 30 inspiring years within IKEA and the recent 8 years as CEO, I have taken the decision to move on,” said Jesper in a statement.

“Doing that, I’m proud of how we have navigated unprecedented challenges across the last years, always guided by our culture and values, while transforming IKEA to an omnichannel retailer with sustainability at our core.

“We are serving more people in better ways than ever before and I’m genuinely optimistic about IKEA’s future.

“Now is the right time to move on and I’m excited for Juvencio to take over. His deep commitment to business, people and planet inspires me and as we find ourselves in the most important decade of humanity, I know he will lead with purpose at heart.

“The decision to take the next step hasn’t been easy. A big heartfelt thank you to the IKEA community, over the years I have had the opportunity to get to know people across the world and develop deep friendships, memories and experiences that will last for a lifetime.

“For that I’m forever grateful. Going forward, I hope to apply my experience in business and sustainability to support and inspire more organisations.”

The future of Ingka and IKEA

IKEA celebrated its 80th anniversary in July 2023.

With 700 million customer visits annually, the brand’s reach gives it unparalleled potential to influence sustainable consumption.

Juvencio inherits this responsibility at a time when expectations on businesses to address climate change and social equity are higher than ever.

His track record of entrepreneurial leadership and purpose-driven decision-making positions him to continue IKEA’s transformation.

With affordability, accessibility and sustainability as guiding pillars, Juvencio is set to steer IKEA through what Jesper calls “the most important decade of humanity”.

Jesper will remain with the company until February 2026 before moving into an advisory role at the IKEA Foundation, continuing his focus on sustainability and impact.
