LEGO: Building Supply Chain Sustainability in the Americas

LEGO has begun construction on a two-million-square-foot regional distribution centre (RDC) in Prince George County, Virginia.
The new facility marks a significant investment in the Danish company’s ongoing effort to enhance supply chain resilience and boost delivery efficiency across the Americas.
Situated about 20 miles from LEGO’s upcoming manufacturing site in Chesterfield County, the RDC will help shorten delivery times for retailers and fans alike while reinforcing its regional supply chain.
The US$360m project expands LEGO’s logistics network and will become operational in 2027. Once completed, it will be LEGO’s sixth distribution centre worldwide and the second in the Americas, alongside the existing Fort Worth, Texas location.
"Breaking ground this week on our newest distribution centre in Prince George County marks an exciting milestone as we expand from one distribution centre in each region to two," says Carsten Rasmussen, COO of LEGO.
"Together with our LEGO Manufacturing Virginia factory, this site reflects our long-term commitment to strengthening our operations and supporting growth across the Americas."
Connecting production and distribution
The new centre supports LEGO’s ambition to deliver play experiences to “millions of children and adults alike” throughout the region. Its proximity to Richmond allows faster responses to market shifts and helps reduce its environmental impact.
Cindy Sikora, Vice President of Supply Chain Operations for the Americas, says: "Our regional distribution centre will strengthen our supply chain network across the Americas, helping us bring LEGO play to more fans and retail partners efficiently and reliably.
We are grateful for the ongoing collaboration we have had with partners across the Commonwealth of Virginia who support our ambition to build this distribution centre.”
With capacity for over 200,000 pallets, the facility will be managed by a 3PL provider and is set to create more than 300 jobs. LEGO has signed a built-to-suit lease within the Crosspointe Commerce Center, a project headed by Hillwood Investment Properties and The Silverman Group.
Advanced automation will underpin operations, ensuring the centre plays a central role in LEGO’s pursuit of more flexible, responsive logistics.
Its integration with the nearby manufacturing site will enable electric vehicle transport between the two, cutting emissions and establishing a direct production-to-distribution link.
Designing for sustainability and people
Sustainability standards are central to the facility’s design. LEGO is incorporating a range of energy-efficient systems and aims to power the building entirely with renewable energy.
The company intends to secure both LEED Gold and WELL certifications, reflecting its dual focus on environmental performance and employee wellbeing.
WELL certification assesses buildings across categories such as air, light, comfort, materials, and community—helping ensure staff benefit from a healthier work environment.
Electric vehicles will move goods between the new RDC and LEGO Manufacturing Virginia, supporting lower-carbon distribution and more sustainable logistics.
This approach fits within LEGO’s broader environmental strategy to decarbonise operations across manufacturing and supply networks.
Growth beyond Virginia
The Prince George project forms part of LEGO’s wider expansion plan across the Americas and beyond. In 2025, LEGO supported six Virginia-based non-profits through local grants, aiming to reach nearly 400,000 children.
It also opened a new retail store at Henrico County’s Short Pump Town Center.
Globally, LEGO continues to grow its logistics and manufacturing footprint. In 2025, the company opened its sixth global factory in Vietnam and completed a 30% capacity upgrade at its Hungary site.
Two new RDCs have also launched recently in Tessenderlo, Belgium and Dong Nai, Vietnam, enhancing LEGO’s regional supply infrastructure.
When both the Chesterfield factory and Prince George RDC become operational in 2027, LEGO will have fortified its presence across the Americas – strengthening its ability to meet demand while furthering its environmental and social commitments.
