Polestar EVs: Transparency, Electrification & Circularity

Swedish electric performance brand Polestar is on a mission to blend uncompromising design with the acceleration of sustainable mobility.
The company was recognised in Sustainability Magazineās Top 250 Worldās Most Sustainable Companies 2025.
āThis isnāt just about energy ā itās about mindset,ā says Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO.
“We’re moving from an economy built on scarcity and extraction to one rooted in sustainable abundance. When power comes from the sun, wind, and human ingenuity, prosperity stops being something we take from the planet and becomes something we create with it.
“At Polestar, that shift defines everything we do. Electric mobility isn’t just cleaner transport — it’s part of a greater transformation where design, technology, and sustainability move as one.
“The age of scarcity is ending. The age of regenerative abundance is here. And it’s ours to accelerate.”
Polestar’s sustainability vision is anchored in four pillars:
-
Climate
-
Transparency
-
Circularity
-
Inclusion
The company aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions per vehicle sold by half by 2030 and reach full climate neutrality across its entire value chain by 2040 — setting a benchmark for leadership in sustainable mobility.
Polestar’s lineup
Across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, Polestar vehicles are engineered for performance, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
The brand’s boldest ambition is the creation of a fully climate-neutral car by 2030 — the Polestar 0.
This initiative transcends carbon offsetting, targeting the total elimination of emissions throughout the value chain ā from materials and logistics to production.
Collaboration lies at its heart. Polestar partners with pioneers in renewable materials, sustainable steel, and traceable supply chains, openly sharing findings across industries to accelerate collective progress.
Polestarās lineup currently includes the Polestar 2, Polestar 3, Polestar 4, and Polestar 5, with future models such as the Polestar 6 roadster and Polestar 7 compact SUV in development. Production spans two continents, with further European expansion underway.
Circularity
Polestarās cars embody longevity, repairability, and recyclability, integrating bio-based and recycled materials throughout interiors and structures.
In the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4, lightweight aluminum, natural fiber composites, and recycled plastics reduce emissions without sacrificing performance.
Responsible battery sourcing and second-life programs reinforce this approach, ensuring critical minerals are handled sustainably and ethically.
Transparency in sustainability, digital, and communication
Transparency remains central to Polestar’s philosophy.
“Clarity is important in turbulent times – and Polestar is very clear: no delays, no turning back to the past, no hybrids, no greenwashing,” says Michael.
“We are 100% electric and committed to our sustainability goals, even when many would rather talk tariffs than climate change.”
The company publicly releases detailed Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for every model, disclosing each vehicle’s carbon footprint from raw materials to end-of-life. This transparency fosters accountability and progress across the entire automotive industry.
Polestar’s commitment extends to digital transparency. Using blockchain technology, the company tracks critical materials like cobalt and nickel back to their sources to ensure responsible mining. Every supplier must comply with global human rights and environmental standards, verified through rigorous audits and third-party assessments.
āWe had the vision of an electric premium brand that places performance and design at its core,ā says former Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath.
āAnd we made it ā the dream became reality: Polestar is the only true global premium electric brand.ā
