Ørsted’s journey to net zero

Ørsted’s sustainability strategy centres around three principles: decarbonisation, biodiversity and community impact.

The company achieved a 98% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity by the end of 2025, through phasing out fossil fuels.

It also increased the share of its facilities that produce renewable energy, to achieve a renewable energy share of 99% by the end of 2025.

By reaching its 2025 emissions intensity target, it puts Ørsted one step closer to achieving its 2040 net zero target, which is validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

After addressing the emissions from its own operations, Ørsted is now focusing on reducing the remaining emissions across its value chain.

To achieve this target, it is working with suppliers to adopt technologies to accelerate decarbonisation across the steel and shipping sectors.

Ørsted is also working on developing circular solutions with key suppliers to reduce the need for virgin materials.

Upon being appointed in 2025, Rasmus Errboe, CEO of Ørsted, said: “Ørsted has a strong foundation with unique capabilities and I’m looking forward to taking the lead on the transformation necessary to navigate the headwinds that Ørsted and our industry currently face.

Offshore wind remains crucial for the green transition and we’re deeply committed to pursuing our vision of a world that runs entirely on green energy.”

Anders’ new position at Ørsted

In his new role as Head of Global Sustainability at Ørsted, Anders is leading a team of sustainability experts to help achieve the company’s decarbonisation goals.

He is helping drive Ørsted’s transition to net zero across the value chain, drawing upon his experience in climate management.

The company’s mission is to contribute to the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors, responsibly manage its environmental impact on land and at sea and deliver benefits to the communities it serves.

Anders said on LinkedIn: “Ørsted is a climate company by design and delivering offshore wind is the single most important thing we do.

“Doing it at pace and at scale is essential to meeting the Paris Agreement and building an independent, secure European energy system.

“Delivering it sustainably is what allows that pace and scale to be sustained over time.

“I am really excited to do this alongside what I believe is the absolute best sustainability team in the industry.”
