IFS has won the AI in Sustainability Award for its PSO solution, using AI to cut emissions, boost efficiency and drive low-carbon transformation globally

IFS, the global enterprise software company supporting asset-intensive industries, has been recognised with the AI in Sustainability Award at the Global Sustainability Awards 2025.

The accolade highlights the company’s pioneering work in embedding sustainability into everyday business operations through AI.

With more than 7,000 employees and customers in 80 countries, IFS continues to position itself as a leader in driving industrial AI solutions that reduce emissions, cut costs and improve efficiency.

The winning solution

The award was presented for IFS’ AI-powered Planning and Scheduling Optimisation (PSO).

“We've won the AI in Sustainability Award for our solution PSO,” says Michael Backstone, Global Climate Strategy Manager at IFS.

“PSO is a scheduling optimisation engine that delivers a combination of operational, commercial and sustainability benefits.

“So it really is a win win win for customers.

“It's AI-driven using agentic flows and it gives our customers the ability to optimise all of their resources and drive sustainability benefits at the same time.”

By minimising travel, fuel use and waste, the solution helps organisations cut their carbon footprint while simultaneously unlocking financial and operational gains.

Sustainability as core strategy

Sustainability is not a new concept for IFS or its customers, and the company’s approach is to ensure it is embedded across all products rather than treated as a siloed exercise.

“IFS Industrial AI has a clear role to play in this transition, supporting asset-intensive industries adapting to a low-carbon future,” says Sophie Graham, Chief Sustainability Officer at IFS, on LinkedIn.

“Now is a pivotal moment to scale AI responsibly and equitably - especially where it can deliver the greatest climate value.”

PSO plays a central role, allowing businesses to reduce fuel usage, shorten time on the road and manage resources more effectively.

Beyond scheduling, IFS also enables predictive maintenance of assets.

By anticipating equipment failures and extending asset life, customers can reduce emissions linked to infrastructure upkeep while saving costs.

This balance of sustainability with business value reflects IFS’ wider mission of supporting industries in their transition to low-carbon operations.

The award and industry recognition

The AI in Sustainability Award celebrates organisations that harness artificial intelligence to advance environmental performance.

IFS’ recognition reflects its success in embedding sustainability into solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.

GIST Impact was highly commended at the awards, underscoring the growing role of data and AI in tackling global sustainability challenges.

For IFS, the award validates its belief that technology can deliver what Sophie Graham, Chief Sustainability Officer at IFS, calls the “how roadmap” for industries striving to decarbonise.
