Subho Mukherjee, Vice President of Sustainability at Nokia
Subhagata Mukherjee (Subho) is a global leader with broad experience in sustainability, strategy, technology and innovation management, organisational transformation and leadership positioning at large multinational organisations.
At Nokia, Subho is the Vice President and Global Head of Sustainability. He leads the companyâs global sustainability strategy, programmes and initiatives, including its overall ESG responsibilities.
Subhoâs focus areas include climate, circularity, bridging the digital divide, industrial decarbonisation, responsible supply chain, human rights, responsible use of technology and new incubations in climate and nature-related technologies.
Here, we speak to Subho ahead of the event, where he will deliver a keynote presentation.
What inspired you to get involved in the event?
At Nokia, we view sustainability as a responsibility and a critical driver of innovation and long-term value creation.
I was inspired to participate in Sustainability LIVE: Climate Week NYC because it brings together changemakers and leaders across industries who are serious about accelerating climate action.
It is a platform that allows us to share ideas, challenge assumptions, and collaborate on scalable solutions to some of the worldâs most urgent challengesâincluding decarbonisation, digital inclusion and circularity.
Events like this are where momentum is built.
What will your panel will focus on?
My panel will explore how digitalisation and connectivity can accelerate the path to a net-zero economy.
Iâll discuss the critical role of networks in enabling more sustainable industriesâfrom energy and transportation to manufacturing and smart cities.
At Nokia, we are focused on building networks that are faster, more secure, energy-efficient and purpose-built for sustainability.
Iâll also highlight the importance of embedding ESG principles into innovation, policy and corporate strategy.
What do you hope to achieve through the event?
My goal is to spark deeper cross-sector dialogue on how digital technology can be harnessed for good.
I hope to show that sustainability and business performance are not opposing forces; they are increasingly intertwined.
Nokia has committed to science-based climate targets, circular design principles and social equity through digital inclusion, but no single company can solve these challenges alone.
I am looking forward to exchanging insights and forging new partnerships that drive systemic impact.
What emerging trends do you believe will shape the future of sustainability over the next decade?
There are several key trends I believe will define the sustainability agenda over the next 10 years.
First, the integration of digital and energy transitions, with AI, IoT and 5G, enables more efficient systems across industries.
Second, the rise of circular business models, where products are designed for longevity, reuse, and recyclability from the outset.
Third, greater transparency and accountability, driven by regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations around ESG disclosures and performance.
Lastly, the mainstreaming of climate adaptation and resilience, particularly important as climate impacts intensify.
At Nokia, weâre focused on helping customers and partners navigate these transitions with technology thatâs both sustainable and transformative.
