Electrolux Targets 35% Recycled Materials by 2030

Electrolux Group has announced a groundbreaking target in its latest sustainability report: increasing the share of recycled steel and plastic used in its products to 35% by 2030. The new goal nearly doubles the weight of recycled materials previously in scope and sets a new industry benchmark for sustainable manufacturing.
"As a sustainability leader, we will continue to push ourselves and the industry to adopt even bolder sustainability commitments," said Elena Breda, Chief Technology & Sustainability Officer at Electrolux Group.
"I am very proud that we have set the target as an industry first. It will help us drive our company's circularity agenda through the increased use of recycled steel and plastics in our products."
Expanding the scope of recycled materials
The new target replaces Electrolux Group's earlier commitment to focus solely on recycled plastics. It now incorporates the company's two most widely used materials by weight—steel and plastic.
With steel now included, the materials covered represent more than 40% of all materials purchased by the Group, approximately three times the previous scope.
Additionally, the total weight of recycled steel and plastics covered by the new target exceeds the last recycled plastics goal.
Strong progress in carbon emission reductions
Electrolux Group's 2024 sustainability results showcases significant achievements in carbon footprint reduction.
- 36% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions (operations) and 31% reduction in Scope 3 emissions (including product use) compared to 2021.
- 94% of electricity and 64% of total energy used in operations sourced from renewables.
- Industry-leading safety performance, achieving a Total Case Incident Rate of 0.37.
Energy efficiency in product innovation
Electrolux Group continues to lead in energy-efficient product design, helping consumers reduce their environmental impact.
In 2024, 24% of total units sold and 33% of gross profit came from its most resource-efficient products. Some of the latest washing machines in Europe exceed the top A energy label by up to 60%.
The Electrolux Pure 900 Air Purifier Humidifier optimises energy use, consuming 53% less energy in smart mode by adjusting fan speed based on air quality. Auto modes in vacuum cleaners help reduce energy consumption by up to 52% for corded models and 47% for cordless models while extending battery life. Additionally, Electrolux/AEG ovens with CookSmart Touch can use up to 28% less energy.
Beyond manufacturing, Electrolux Group remains committed to sustainability education and social responsibility. Through the Electrolux Food Foundation's Food Heroes initiative, the company has engaged 81,000 children worldwide in sustainable eating programmes, inspiring future generations to make more environmentally conscious choices.
Electrolux Group's leadership in sustainability has earned significant global recognition. It received the EcoVadis Gold rating, placing it among the top 5% of more than 70,000 companies worldwide for sustainability performance. Additionally, CDP recognised its commitment to climate action with an A-core, reinforcing its position as an industry leader in sustainable innovation.
