Inside Carlsbergâs âElectric Beerâ EV Fleet Initiative

Carlsberg Sweden has announced a significant expansion of its electric transport operations.
The Swedish arm of the Danish brewing giant is set to scale up its partnership with freight technology company Einride in 2025.
This collaboration will see electric vehicles handling up to 40% of Carlsberg Sweden's transport requirements across southern and western Sweden.
The company is set to deploy eleven electric trucks with trailers this year.
"We are excited about our partnership with Einride and the progress we are making towards better logistics together,” says Peter Hammarstedt, CEO of Carlsberg Sweden.
“At Carlsberg Sweden, we are constantly working to take concrete steps towards a more sustainable business, and having more electric vehicles in our transport chain is one example of this.
“We hope this can raise awareness of the importance of better and smarter logistics - and inspire others to take action in their industries.”
Carlsberg’s plans to go electric
Logistics form a sizable part of Carlsberg’s overall carbon footprint, so its transition to electric vehicles is a major step towards the group’s Net Zero Carbon Footprint ambition for 2040.
By implementing Einride's platform of electric vehicles and AI-controlled charging infrastructure, Carlsberg Sweden aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2,460 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
This shift from diesel to electric vehicles is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an impressive 93%.
The brewer has already logged 340,000 electric kilometers since beginning its partnership with Einride in 2022 – equivalent to circumnavigating the globe eight times.
The ‘Electric Beer’ campaign
To celebrate this milestone, Carlsberg Sweden is launching a limited-edition alcohol-free beer that embodies their sustainability commitment.
The uniquely positioned product is brewed, produced and transported using 100% renewable energy and electric transport solutions.
Each can of beer features a QR code providing access to data about both the brewing process and the future transport route between Malmö, Falkenberg and Gothenburg.
"Carlsberg has a strong brewing tradition, and with the help of advanced transport technology, it is now carrying on that legacy,” says Linnéa Kornehed Falck, Founder and Vice President of Einride.
“It's not just about sustainability; it's about pushing the boundaries of transport technology, with electric power being a step towards redefining how products are transported.
“This campaign brings that to life and shows what is possible when tradition and innovation meet.”
Industry leadership
The Electric Beer initiative builds on Carlsberg Sweden's 2022 achievement as the first in the alcoholic beverage industry to electrify heavy freight transport.
This latest expansion demonstrates how established manufacturers are finding practical pathways to decarbonise their operations beyond just production.
The campaign aims to encourage consumers to consider the environmental impact of product transportation and manufacturing processes.
For Carlsberg, the initiative represents not just environmental benefits but potential long-term business advantages through increased efficiency and reduced operational costs.
With the beverage industry facing growing scrutiny over sustainability practices, Carlsberg's US$7.2m investment in electric logistics positions the company as a forward-thinking leader in addressing Scope 3 emissions.
“Since 2022, Einride and Carlsberg Sweden have saved over 418 tonnes of CO2e and driven 340,000 fully-electric kilometres,” says Simon Boas Hoffmeyer, Global Head of Sustainability & ESG at Carlsberg Group.
“The Electric Beer marks the latest milestone in their partnership, aiming to save up to 2,460 tonnes of CO2e yearly in the coming years.”
