'Sustainable Success: How Businesses Win as a Force for Good' is the upcoming book by Sphera CEO Paul Marushka
Sphera CEO Paul Marushka's upcoming book explains how companies can balance sustainability and profitability by becoming a ‘Force for Good’

A new book by Sphera’s Founder and CEO Paul Marushka is lifting the lid on the secrets to corporate sustainability.

The book, entitled ‘Sustainable Success: How Businesses Win as a Force for Good’, is scheduled for release on 22 April 2025.

It details the challenges that modern companies face in navigating changing regulations and market conditions, giving readers advice on how they can respond most effectively.

In the book, Paul draws on more than two decades of experience in the sustainability sphere, during which time he has developed a few essential concepts.

One of these is the ‘Cycle of Good’, which he believes can transform businesses into forces for positive change.

Rather than treating sustainability as merely a compliance requirement, the book argues that forward-thinking companies should recognise it as a strategic necessity.

"Companies exist at different stages in their sustainability journey,” says Paul.

“Some are just getting started, others are barely maintaining compliance, but true leaders treat sustainability as a strategic business driver.

"A nuanced, balanced approach to sustainability innovation enables companies to prosper across regional lines, in any market or regulatory environment.

“In my time as a CEO, I've learned that companies that anticipate and respond to cultural and societal shifts position themselves as leaders, but those that lag behind risk obsolescence."

Similarly, David Batchelor, former Vice Chairman at Marsh, describes the book as "an essential read for anyone wanting to learn more about sustainability and how to think about it in both a pragmatic and strategic way".

Beyond compliance, towards philosophy

This book addresses one of the topics that is most often debated in modern day boardrooms: how to balance sustainability and profitability.

Paul looks to demonstrate just how organisations can enhance their reputation and improve long-term business performance  by implementing and fully committing to sustainability strategies – especially those that go beyond simple reporting compliance.

Making sustainability a cornerstone – a fundamental business philosophy – is another of the lessons Paul has learned during his career in the sector.

As Founder of Sphera, he implemented that in the company from the get-go.

Sphera has been providing integrated sustainability and operational risk management software, data and consulting services for more than 30 years.

The company focuses on environment, health, safety, sustainability, supply chain transparency and much more, serving more than 8,000 customers and more than one million users across 100 countries.

Sustainable Success: How Businesses Win as a Force for Good is available for pre-order from major booksellers including Amazon and Barnes & Noble, with a 22 April 2025 release date, coinciding with Earth Day.
