How does EcoVadis rate sustainability?

EcoVadis’ score is based on the quality of the company’s sustainability management system at the time of the assessment.

The company’s medals and badges recognise eligible companies that have completed the EcoVadis assessment process.

EcoVadis medal criteria:

  • Platinum – Top 1% (99th percentile and above)

  • Gold – Top 5% (95th percentile and above)

  • Silver – Top 15% (85th percentile and above)

  • Bronze – Top 35% (65th percentile and above).

The percentile rank shown on a company’s scorecard is calculated at the time of publication.

It reflects how the company’s performance compares with all rated companies in the EcoVadis database over the previous 12 months.

This comparison is made across all industries, not within a single sector.

To qualify for a medal, a company must score at least 30 in each of the four assessment themes: Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

Driving sustainability across the value chain

The rating awards Tetra Pak’s efforts to embed sustainability into the core of its business across all four EcoVadis assessment categories.

This achievement aligns with the company’s broader purpose to “make food safe and available everywhere while protecting what’s good – food, people and the planet.”, Tetra Pak states.

At the heart of its agenda are five interconnected focus areas:

  • Food systems
  • Climate
  • Nature
  • Circularity
  • Social sustainability.

By taking a whole value chain approach, Tetra Pak works closely with suppliers, customers and partners to embed sustainability at every stage of its operations.

“This achievement reflects the determination of everyone at Tetra Pak to drive our sustainability transformation, together with stakeholders across the value chain,” says Lars Holmquist, Executive Vice President at Tetra Pak.

“The resulting Platinum EcoVadis rating demonstrates our shared passion for continuous improvement and commitment to embedding long-term sustainability across every part of our operations and value chain.”

Strengthening capabilities and transparency

In 2024, Tetra Pak established a dedicated Sustainability Excellence team to build capabilities across processes, systems, data and people.

A major driver of the EcoVadis result was the company’s emphasis on transparency and cross-functional collaboration.

For example, its supplier engagement programme, Join Us in Protecting the Planet, supported 29 suppliers to set validated science-based climate targets in 2024.

This initiative contributed to a 15% reduction in emissions from purchased materials compared to the 2019 baseline, achieved through improved volume allocation and stronger collaboration with suppliers.

Beyond climate action, Tetra Pak also launched a new Supplier Code of Conduct, built on 15 fundamental principles.

This framework is designed to enhance human rights protection and environmental due diligence across its supply chain.
