What are CGI’s Sustainable Business Solutions?

Global IT and business consulting services company CGI offers solutions to its clients, with a focus on sustainable outcomes.
It has developed an updated sustainability approach for its clients, working together with its customers, partners and stakeholders.
This approach redesigns how the company looks across the entire value chain to make innovations in its clients’ business processes.
CGI’s sustainability solutions
CGI’s new approach to solutions focuses on the ways its customers can make a positive impact in the world.
It follows a Plan A approach, which encompasses four components:
- Assess – identifying and connecting with stakeholders to assess goals and ambitions
- Aim – outlining clear aims and objectives
- Achieve – communicating standards and technology integration
- Account – monitoring and reporting progress to support goals
CGI’s sustainability team works on developing solutions for companies that put nature and communities at the heart of their operations.
It aims to provide its clients with increased resilience, risk management skills, data-driven decision making and impact reduction.
It focuses on ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, as well as having foresight of evolving regulations.
CGI makes sure that companies are transparent with their reporting in order to build credibility with stakeholders and investors.
Mattie Yeta, Chief Sustainability Officer at CGI UK & Australia, says: “In recent years, the global push for sustainability has intensified. There are increasing regulatory demands, societal expectations and environmental responsibilities.
“At CGI, sustainability is at the heart of all we do. We play a critical role in supporting the United Nation’s global agenda.
“We are also committed to helping our clients meet ever-evolving demands, supporting them to reduce their social and environmental impacts, improve the communities in which they operate and advance sustainable development.”
Although its solutions can be applied across all industries, CGI has particular expertise in sectors such as banking, utilities, energy and renewables, property construction and government.
How does it operate sustainably?
As well as helping its clients meet their sustainability targets, CGI is working on embedding sustainable practices into its own operations.
It aims to lead by example through its science-based targets to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions across its operations and supply chain.
The company’s global target is to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
It has achieved a 47% reduction in its global emissions since 2019.
CGI has been awarded a Platinum rating by EcoVadis in its sustainability assessment and 100% of its directly purchased energy is renewable.
Across the UK, CGI has planted 10,000 trees since 2021 through reforestation and community-led projects and it promotes sustainable commuting with cycling ambassadors in its UK offices.
It has improved its energy efficiency across its UK operations through smarter energy management, efficiency systems and building portfolio optimisation, as well as reducing its waste footprint by eliminating single-use plastics from its office kitchens.
Tara McGeehan, President of CGI’s UK & Australia Operations, says: “I passionately believe that digital technology has an important role to play in enabling us all to live and work more sustainably.
“From providing us with the information we need to take the right divisions, to simplifying access to the benefits of a move to a greener economy and delivering a just climate transition, I’m certain that the digital sector will play its part.
“By implementing a net zero strategy, we’re improving job satisfaction, increasing retention levels and making ourselves a more attractive employer to potential candidates.”
