Sustainability Awards: Q&A With Kevin Dunckley, HH Global

In a world facing urgent climate challenges and increasing regulatory scrutiny, sustainability and ESG have become central to how businesses operate, innovate and lead.
From decarbonisation and circular economy models to social impact and transparent governance, the landscape is rapidly evolving as organisations respond to global demands for responsible growth.
Within this critical context, the Global Sustainability Awards, held in association with Sustainability LIVE, serve a vital role – recognising and celebrating the individuals, initiatives and companies setting new benchmarks in environmental stewardship, social impact and governance excellence.

Did you know? Kevin spoke at Sustainability LIVE: Climate Week NYC 2024 exploring The Blueprint for Sustainable Success.
Hear, we speak to Kevin ahead of the Global Sustainability and ESG Awards about his involvement and thoughts for the future of sustainability.
What inspired you to get involved with The Global Sustainability Awards?
We have entered these awards previously, so when the opportunity to be a judge arose, I was honoured and accepted.
Having attended the 2024 event, we understand the prestige attached to these awards and the high calibre of the entries from both large and small businesses.
It was therefore an easy decision to be involved as a judge in 2025.
What importance do the Global Sustainability Awards have to the industry?
I think it is really important for hard working teams to step back and sometimes celebrate the successes achieved in any given year.
Sustainability is a challenging area which requires determination, resilience, patience and continuous learning.
Against the current geo-political backdrop, it makes it even more important to pause and reflect and celebrate business success.
What trends do you think will impact the future of the sustainability industries?
I think we are starting to see Sustainability 2.0 emerging right now.
The narrative and positioning around sustainability is changing and evolving and I think this is a good thing.
Defining the business case in a corporate context, using clearer language and linking to core business and human needs using simpler terminology.
Sustainability and responsible business have not become a bad idea because there is a new resident in the White House.
It is starting to be reframed and I am seeing programmes accelerating and investment increasing.
Alongside this macro situation, we are seeing greater focus on nature and biodiversity which I think will continue to grow with TNFD and SBTN all gathering traction.
We are also seeing innovation and sustainability technology emerging fast powered by AI.
This trend will accelerate faster than we imagine and will create opportunities in all areas for those who understand and adapt.
What qualities do winning entries possess?
Winning entries contain a good story or challenge that is outlined clearly and underpinned with outcomes and data.
A clear objective, a clear methodology or process explanation and numbers and metrics that clearly demonstrate a positive outcome or solution.
I always scan entries first to see if there is a clear beginning, middle and end and whether there are numbers and data to support the results.
If you blend innovation, ingenuity and collaboration, I think you have a strong entry on your hands.
What advice would you give to individuals or companies aspiring to win this award in the future?
Per the previous answer, clearly outline the business, environmental or social challenge your entry addresses.
Ensure the explanation clearly defines the issue being addressed, the methodology and resources/partners used and the outcomes supported by measurable data.
Judges need to have these elements as a minimum to consider an entry and potentially award-winning.
