Schneider Electric: Smashing 2024 Sustainability Goals
Schneider Electric delivers its expertise to thousands of customers across more than 100 countries, offering solutions in digital automation and energy management.
Not only does the company aid its clients in becoming more sustainable by bolstering energy efficiency, but it also sets an example in sustainability, actively enhancing its own influence on the environment through innovative clean energy projects.
As of October 2024, Schneider has announced that it is on track to meet its sustainability ambitions for the year.
“Our achievements this quarter showcase the scale of our impact, with local projects playing a pivotal role in achieving our ambitious goals,” says Xavier Denoly, Schneider Electric’s Senior Vice-President of Sustainable Development.
“Despite these great results, our work is far from over. We must further intensify our global decarbonisation efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change, benefiting people and planet.”
Providing sustainable power for millions
Schneider set a target to bring reliable and environmentally friendly energy to 50 million individuals by the year's end 2024, a goal it achieved ahead of schedule.
Nearly 700 million people worldwide still lack access to dependable energy sources, making this target an important one to bring access to new technologies around the world.
Schneider has installed solar power set-ups in various public facilities across Africa and India.
In Kenya, Nigeria and India, the company installed advanced hybrid solar solutions in health clinics, which serve approximately two million individuals.
In India, Schneider's green energy solutions now power more than 700 schools, positively affecting about 120,000 students' education.
The company is now gearing up to widen these efforts so that by 2030, it will aid a cumulative total of 100 million people since the inception of the programme in 2009.
Empowering through knowledge and skills
Coupled with its provisions in energy solutions, Schneider is also heavily invested in educational initiatives.
It has already provided training in energy management to more than 763,000 individuals.
Schneider's goal is to extend this education to one million people by 2025 and to double its offerings for interns, apprentices, and recent graduates.
In partnership with Enactus, a platform that fosters experiential learning, the company has supported university students in 10 countries to refine their entrepreneurial skills, focusing on the energy transition.
Jeanne Laurence, Youth Education & Entrepreneurship Program Officer at Schneider Electric, says: “This initiative is closely aligned with Schneider Electric’s Youth Impact Through Learning initiative, aimed at upskilling youth to shape a just energy transition.
“It also actively champions gender equality by integrating young girls into educational training initiatives.”
Tracking sustainability achievements
Schneider Electric evaluates its sustainability progress through Schneider Sustainability Impact (SSI) scores.
This tool rates its performance on a scale from one to 10 in terms of meeting six long-term commitments to the planet.
The company aims for an SSI score of 7.4 by the end of 2024, and as of October has reached 7.29.
Gwenaelle Avice Huet, Executive Vice President of Europe Operations and Member of the Executive Committee at Schneider Electric, says: “I’m really proud that our Schneider Sustainability Impact score for Q3 shows that we are well on track to meet our 2024 ambitions.
“I’m proud to be leading the development of our sustainability program, and want to thank everyone in our business who contributes to us being able to make a positive impact in our communities. Our work continues!”
