UNIVELO launches AIMA E-Bikes exclusively in Canada
UNIVELO partners with AIMA to bring high-performance, UL-certified E-Bikes to Canada, offering innovation, quality & sustainability to local retailers

In an exciting development within the realm of sustainable transportation, UNIVELO, a fresh face in the Canadian bicycle distribution industry, has joined forces with the global AIMA Technology Group.

This new partnership promises to bring a new wave of high-performance electric bicycles, commonly known as e-bikes, to the Canadian marketplace.

E-bikes are part of the increasing trend towards eco-friendly and efficient methods of transportation, commonly powered by electricity rather than traditional fuel sources, aligning perfectly with global sustainability goals.

UNIVELO owner, Philippe Roy, is very excited about the partnership. “The design and performance of these e-bikes are awe-inspiring," he says.

"Dealers across Canada who participated in our recent tour were consistently amazed. We believe our pricing is competitive and by design, our retailer program will be attractive, especially when many retailers face shrinking margins and hesitance to commit to large inventories.”

The role of AIMA

AIMA isn't new to the EV scene. Known for its innovative and efficient electric vehicles, AIMA has become a benchmark for e-bike production globally.

It achieves high standards through advanced welding techniques, exceptional product handling and by meeting North American market needs impeccably.

The engineering prowess of AIMA is evident in each e-bike, as they house the highly efficient Bafang motors and maintain rigorous safety standards including the UL-2849 certification.

The integration of components from reputable suppliers ensures that after-sales experiences are smooth and satisfactory for customers.

By the closure of 2023, AIMA’s extensive operational scale included 11 major production facilities worldwide and a presence in more than 50 countries.

What's more, as of March 2024, AIMA's EV sales soared past 80 million units, earning AIMA the title of “Leading Global Electric Two-Wheeler Brand” from the renowned growth consulting firm Frost & Sullivan.

A strategic approach to Canadian retail

The distribution deal between UNIVELO and AIMA is exclusive, which means that AIMA’s E-Bikes will be available only through select biking retailers across Canada.

This arrangement ensures dedicated support for local dealers, providing a competitive advantage within the marketplace.

The carefully designed retailer programme, which was developed with insights from Canadian retailers themselves, addresses their major concerns about competitive pricing and the need to manage large inventory overheads effectively.

This is especially pivotal at a time when retail margins are shrinking and purchasing decisions are made more cautiously.

The modern e-rider

The appeal of AIMA's e-bikes lies in its innovative design coupled with cutting edge technology, delivering outstanding performance suited for both urban commuting and leisure activities.

The seamless operation of their e-bikes is propelled by the robust Bafang motor systems, which ensures a smooth ride.

Certified for safety and built with high quality components, these bikes stand ready to meet the rigorous demands of Canadian consumers.

AIMA’s reputation as a trailblazer in electric mobility is well supported by its consistent focus on innovation and quality, pushing the boundaries to redefine sustainable transportation.

How do e-bikes lower the barriers to active travel uptake?
  • Increased Motivation to Ride: E-bikes often encourage more frequent cycling by making it easier for riders to tackle longer distances and challenging terrains. The pedal assistance allows users to ride more often without feeling exhausted, leading to improved physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Ease of Cycling: The assistance provided by e-bikes makes cycling less strenuous, especially in hilly areas or against headwinds. This ease of use attracts a broader range of cyclists, including those who may have previously found traditional cycling too challenging.
  • Accessibility for Diverse Users: E-bikes cater to a wider demographic, including older adults and individuals with physical limitations. The motor assistance allows these groups to enjoy cycling without the physical strain that conventional bikes may impose, fostering inclusivity in cycling activities.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Although e-bikes can have a higher initial purchase price, their low operating costs—such as minimal electricity usage for charging and reduced maintenance expenses—make them a financially viable option over time. This affordability can encourage more people to choose e-bikes over other forms of transportation.

The alliance between UNIVELO and AIMA symbolises a shared commitment to transforming mobility in Canada through sustainable, high-performance solutions.

Considering UNIVELO’s strategic retail partnerships and AIMA’s track record in global markets, this collaboration is set to redefine standards in Canadian electric bike offerings, promoting a more sustainable and dynamic approach to daily commutes and leisure rides alike.

As such, the introduction of AIMA E-Bikes via UNIVELO paves the way for an environmentally friendly evolution in the world of mobility.

As Philippe says: “We are thrilled to introduce their world-class e-bikes to the Canadian market, helping shape the future of sustainable transportation."
