We recently caught up with Javier to discover how he was feeling ahead of Sustainability LIVE: Diversity & Inclusion, what he aims to achieve through our event, as well as his predictions for the future of the industry.
What inspired you to get involved with Sustainability LIVE: Diversity & Inclusion?
I strongly believe this topic will become one of the key areas in the upcoming years within the sustainability landscape. So, I thought it was an outstanding opportunity to share reflections with other colleagues.
At Net Zero LIVE London 2024, Javier was featured on our ‘Scope 3 Forum’ alongside Mark Jones, Chief Sustainability Officer at THG and Patrick Linighan, Chief Sustainability Officer at Clyde & Co LLP.
Provide us with an overview of what you hope to focus on during the ‘Diversity & Inclusion’ panel.
I’m participating in the Diversity & Inclusion panel that will explore the interrelationship between DE&I and sustainability, the challenges in their integration and the different strategies used by companies. It will also address the importance of embracing complexity and fostering inclusivity to create truly sustainable outcomes.
What do you hope to achieve through Sustainability LIVE: Diversity & Inclusion?
I hope to have enriching and constructive discussions throughout the event. In addition to this, I would like the event to look at areas from different angles, broadening my perspective and creating inspiration from the experiences and achievements of other colleagues.
What emerging trends do you believe will shape the future of the sustainability industry over the next decade?
- Balancing the importance of the “S” in ESG - Historically, environmental topics have been at the forefront of sustainability debates. I can now see there is a shift towards the social aspects and more events, ratings, etc are dedicated only to social aspects, to stress the importance of this matter within the sustainability landscape.
- Transparency and regulation - Regulatory bodies and investors are pushing for increased transparency and standardization in ESG reporting. The point of having comparable and reliable data will become crucial.
- Social and Environmental Justice - There is growing recognition of the link between sustainability and social justice. Companies will increasingly integrate environmental and social justice goals, ensuring that sustainability efforts benefit diverse communities and address historic inequities.
