Amcor and Mondelēz have partnered to create recycled plastic packaging for Cadbury Mini Eggs, including sustainability information for consumers

Mondelēz International, the company behind food favourites like Cadbury, Oreo and Toblerone, has announced a new milestone in its sustainability journey.

For Easter 2026, its Cadbury chocolate range is switching to recyclable packaging.

In collaboration with its international partner Amcor, it is working on solutions to advance its sustainability goals.

The companies are partnering with the aim of making the joy of Easter more sustainable.

Cadbury Mini Eggs bags will now have 65% certified recycled plastic packaging.

As well as this, small and large Easter Cadbury tablets will be wrapped in 80% certified recycled plastic packaging.

The ribbon handle of Cadbury’s Special Gesture Easter Egg range has been replaced with a recyclable cardboard handle, making it easier for consumers to recycle after use.

This 2026 Easter packaging uses Amcor’s AmFiniti Recycled Content, which works by converting post-consumer plastic waste into new packaging.

Through the partnership, around 134 tonnes of post-consumer recycled plastic will be sourced to produce packaging for the Cadbury Easter range, which is equivalent to 70 million bags of Mini Eggs.

Janice Narainsamy, Senior Product Development Engineer at Amcor, says: “It’s fantastic to see our collaboration with Mondelēz International come to life with AmFiniti Recycled Content in iconic products like Cadbury Mini Eggs.

“Expanding recycled content into seasonal favourites such as the Easter range demonstrates what’s possible when innovation and partnership align.

“This milestone shows how we can integrate more circular packaging solutions at scale, while maintaining the performance and quality consumers expect.”

Mondelēz’s sustainability goals

As part of its global Pack Light and Right strategy, Mondelēz is aiming to achieve at least a 25% virgin plastic reduction in its rigid plastic packaging by 2030.

Its other goals include designing 98% of its packaging for recyclability and labelling it with clear consumer recycling information by 2030.

As of 2026, 96% of Mondelēz’s total packaging is designed to be recycled.

The new Mini Eggs packaging features clear recycling information, highlighting the product as a sustainable option for consumers.

Last year, Mondelēz introduced the Cadbury Easter Favourites Pouch, which featured the outer packaging made from paper, as well as removing 6.4 million plastic windows from its Easter egg range.

This year’s revised Mini Eggs packaging continues Mondelēz’s ambitions for sustainable packaging in its seasonal chocolate ranges.

With Amcor’s sustainable packaging solutions, Mondelēz is approaching its own sustainability goals, while encouraging consumers to make climate conscious choices in their purchasing and consumption behaviour.

Joanna Dias, UK&I Sustainability Lead at Mondelēz International, says: “Our Cadbury Mini Eggs range is an iconic Easter treat, loved by people across the UK & Ireland, and this is an exciting moment to increase our use of recycled plastic packaging across the Easter Range.

“Continuing our partnership with Amcor to grow our impact, our Cadbury Mini Eggs this Easter are another fantastic milestone for Mondelēz UK&I as we work towards the delivery of Mondelēz’s global sustainability goals, namely, reducing our use of virgin plastic.”

The Cadbury Mini Eggs bags will include a QR code on the back of the packaging, which allows customers to scan it to find more information about the product’s use of recycled material, as well as Mondelēz’s approach to sustainable packaging.

Easter 2026 provides a crucial opportunity for Mondelēz to advance its sustainability ambitions, through increasing its use of recycled plastic and influencing sustainable consumer behaviour.
