DuPont achieves 100% renewable electricity for its US healthcare manufacturing via Renewable Energy Certificates, advancing its net zero strategy

Sourcing renewable energy is essential for businesses seeking to decarbonise and enhance sustainability.

By eliminating fossil-fuelled power, companies can quickly reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions and lower costs.

Since 2019, DuPont has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 76%. Scope 3 emissions have also fallen by 66% compared to 2020 and the company says it is on track to reach net zero by 2050.

Half of DuPont’s global electricity comes from renewable sources, with all of its European manufacturing sites using only renewable electricity.

The company has now included its US healthcare sites.

DuPont’s US-based healthcare manufacturing operations are now powered by 100% renewable electricity through Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

"Achieving 100% renewable electricity at our US-based DuPont healthcare manufacturing facilities further contributes to our decarbonisation strategy and RE100 commitment, with more than half of our total DuPont global electricity already sourced from renewables," says Scott Collick, CSO and VP of Sustainability & Regulatory Compliance at DuPont.

DuPont procured approximately 30GWh of electricity annually for 12 manufacturing sites, reducing Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions from grid use.

"Powering these additional US healthcare manufacturing facilities with renewable electricity is a meaningful step in advancing our sustainability commitments while enabling a more sustainable healthcare supply chain for the benefit of both our customers and patients," says Dean Childers, Vice President and General Manager, DuPont Healthcare Solutions.

Aiming for 2035

DuPont has embedded sustainability as a core part of its business, using it to drive long-term profitability and meet supply chain and regulatory requirements.

By 2035, DuPont aims to minimise, eliminate, or avoid substances of concern (SoCs) in products where safer alternatives exist.

Every DuPont facility will implement a reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle program to achieve a 10% reduction in total waste intensity.

In February, announced that its Tedlar polyvinyl fluoride film manufacturing operations were also powered by 100% renewable electricity through RECs.

In total, approximately 42GWh of electricity consumption was matched annually with RECs for its manufacturing facilities in Buffalo, Louisville, and Fayetteville.

“Fully integrating renewable electricity across our Tedlar manufacturing footprint reflects how we are advancing sustainability across our operations,” says Tucker Norton, Vice President and General Manager, DuPont Printing & Films.

“This achievement supports our decarbonisation strategy while ensuring we continue to deliver the high-performance Tedlar films our customers depend on.”
